I know there are some serious talented photo gurus on here so any help is appreciated :)

This is just a quick reply from my iPhone, I'm happy to delve into more detail when I have more time.

While there is nothing wrong with your images I can see room for improvement.

Your car looks quite dark once converted to black and white, I would recearch the term 'high key image' and low key image for a grasp on what I'm about to describe. I'd want the car to stand out from the back ground, I'd do this by having the background be very bright to contrast against the car. Id also shoot with a wider aperture (smaller number) if it's possible with your equipment. Me personally, I'd have shot your car in colour and against a nIce blue sky like we have today. Consider waiting till the sun is going down or just coming up for the best light of the day.

As I say, happy to go into more detail when I have more time but for now I hope that's food for thought.

Regards,

Matt.

Hey Paza nice looking shots there mate. My 2 cents, yes there are some talented photographers on this site but one thing I've learnt is that photography is a personal journey. People may try to impart there knowledge of how they approach shooting a car but in the end you've got to see it through your own eyes and no two pairs are alike.

The fundamentals are pretty basic tbh but take along time to become skilled in.To control exposure you have to get the iso, shutter speed and apature correct blah blah blah. But to help improve your photography, maybe think about composition at this stage. It's like a golf swing, think about too much and the end result is tree's :o Look up the rule of thirds for example and try to frame the car in a position where it compliments this rule.

For the shots you've posted, just reset the tripod and shoot again, yes you could look into exposure compensation and spot metering but it depends how much you want to invest in preparing your shots. If you havnt got one get a circular polarizer it'll be your best friend for shooting cars

Wish you all the best with your journey.

Thanks guys for the advice its really helpful. I'm just starting out so really want to get into it.

I wanted to get an idea of the basic really as am going on my Euro trip in a few weeks with another 10 cars 8) so wanted to take some great pictures along the way :)

More research is needed  , once again thanks for the input

Based on these pics, you should have bought a grey coupe :poke:

I think it looks great in red, lets see the pics in full colour

Paza - Now you have GIMP, have you had a look at layers and masks - you can get some great effects using them!

BTW - loving the photos, especially the colour one in the woods

If you get the composition (rule of thirds as mentioned earlier) and exposure correct you'll be a long way into your journey. Get that right before you start messing with HDR etc.

You can always crop the image in the computer to improve composition, although getting it right in the camera will save you a ton of time later. I'd suggest you learn about the following and the impact they have on your pictures to start with: Shutter Speed, Aperture, ISO. Those three things in balance will get you a better picture. Once you're comfortable with those, look at the metering modes of your camera. You'll probably have evaluative, partial and spot metering modes. These affect how the camera measures the light falling on the sensor.

Have a look at this website... http://digital-photography-school.com/learning-exposure-in-digital-photography

Simply put, I'd never desaturate Imola Red, it's too lush to blacken away.

I think these would look grea with all the background desaturated and the car in colour.
