Black Surround Wing Mirror Glass??

Long story short, I had another members car for a day the other week, and his wing mirror glass (I realise I'm mental) was SO much nicer than mine.

For a start the glass was very blue, and it also had a lovely rubber black surround on it.

Was this some sort of option? And can I get me some?
 
It's probably one of the auto-dip mirrors, like the one in this video...

Also at night it makes it much harder to see the curb/ police cars behind etc!

The only good thing i like about them is the electric close! But as that cant be programmed on locking... Its somewhat limited!

I love the auto dimming mirrors on mine. I did always wonder how they work - now I know :thumbsup:

That issue with the liquid may be what is causing the light double-image in my passenger wing mirror - anyone know where to get the correct new glass, and how much it costs ? I guess it will be more expensive than standard...

Electrochromic glass is very expensive! According to realoem.com, the entire mirror assembly is replaced, at a cost of around 300 quid!! Auto dip is nice, but not 300 quid nice (x3!!) :cry: Probably a dealer only part. I wouldn't want to risk anything from a breaker either, they sound rather fragile and prone to premature failure.

Bloody hell, at that price I'm very glad I haven't got these on my car. Its' bad enough when the ordinary mirrors get broken, but that is too much to have to worry about.

I doubt they will be cheap. I work for Volkswagen & I know we replaced one under warranty on a new Passat and it was roughly £160! Add the BMW premium tax (just because its a BMW) and your probably looking well over £200!!
 
Luckily ive not heard of them falling off like the non dimming ones. Im guessing the edge keeps them in place.

Cheers mate :oops: ,i enquired about the price of the interior dimming mirror in my e46 £400 :o -just in case- its not like they can be used when faulty i was told they go black :roll:
