Down in Cambridge for the Duxford D Day Air show I also managed to fit in a trip to see a Sunset airshow at Old Warden. The Shuttleworth Collection is housed there and I had hoped to see some of the Edwardian airplanes they have, flying (like the ones used in the film 'Those Magnificent men in Their Flying Machines'). Unfortunately the weather was too unstable BUT I did get to see a favourite war time plane that was used to transport spies and French Resistance operatives at night across to France and back to the UK - a not inconsiderate accomplishment during wartime blackouts. Imagine trying to find a field in a blacked out France in the middle of the night The Lysander - in black camouflage does have luminous paint on the rear cockpit ladder so that it can be seen in the dark! Like all the aircraft flown that day it put on a terrific display.
The museum is well worth a visit and has a wide variety of exhibits including cars and motorcycles.
