I thought it deserved it's own thread/picture, prefer the all black grill by miles. Looks double hard :D

Looks like it's been involved in an accident and has trim missing

Although I'd like to get rid of the BMW badge on the front as I've already had a failed tea-leafing attempt.

C10Jeeper: how much (time & cost) to fill the gap left by removing the front roundel?

Shame we can't get away with removing the front plate to complete the look...

Why not Sixspeed does, only been pulled a few times so not to much of a problem. Think it's maybe not so noticeable on a white car though.

yeah taking off the number plate will be perfect. I thought about it and i cant be bothered with the hassle the police give me.

So the question is, how did you get this black grill look? Please say it's just as simple as removing the chrome surround from the normal black one?

Adie

Hi adie, It was quite simple. removed the chrome rings, used dry and wet paper, used a grey primer and then satin black spray. then a lacquer. took about 2-3 mins to spray and then 20-30mins to dry in between each quote. cost about 15 quid from halfords. cheaper than someone doing it for u. if I can do it anyone can. its quite easy. all u have to do it u spray equally. make sure its not dripping. good luck mate.

Thanks chetalien - I assume you remove the grill first? How do you do this and then how do you remove the chrome rings? When you say sand, do you mean remove the damage that the chrome rings have made?

Hi adie, u can easily remove the grilles from the car, make sure u pull bottom first and then the top comes up, dont put too much pressure. Then u can remove the chrome rings using a dinner knife slowly, its quite fragile surprisingly. Then once separated, use the above mentioned method for painting them. good luck mate.

So last night i finally got round to having a look. I managed to get the grills out far easier than i'd thought. You where all right, therres a nack to it. So, as mad as it sounds, as it was quite late, i used some matt black electircal tape to cover the chrome. I was supprised how great it looked. I stuck it make on the car as a sort of "proof of concept" and loved it so much, it's stayed on. I'm going to try and either get some better tape or redo this evening as i did i better job on one that the other. I'll try and get some photos up to show you.

Here you go...

You can see a couple of areas i need to redo on the close up photo, but given it's electrical tape, i'm really pleased with it.

Just done the same to mine.

Took about 15 mins! Will probably leave it a while to see if I definately like it then do it properly.

thoughts?......
