Black Exhaust Tips

Not to everyone's taste but black accenting does suit some colour Zeds more than others, and IMO probably Phoenix yellow than any other colour but it does work well with silver and red cars also I think. Since buying the Zed I've been gradually picking out more non black bits and turning them black. Badges, radiator grilles etc have all been done and I did paint the exhaust tips black to fit with everything else. They looked ok but I thought they needed something more.

Mooching through E.Bay a few days back I found some black exhaust tips for a Scirocco which looked like they'd fit - albeit a little oversize (66mm dia as opposed to the pipe dia of 60mm on my 2.5Si Sport) on the inlet side but I thought they'd pack out ok. At half price of £20 because they have a small scratch or two they were worth a punt so I sent for them. They arrived yesterday and I fitted them this afternoon. Firstly, the sctratches were minimal - bit of black paint and they're fine. Secondly - the inside bit of the tips aren't actually 66mm as advertised, they're exactly 60mm so they fit perfectly onto the end pipes of the Zed with no need for them to be packed out. I did have to make the inlet pipes round again though, they were a tad squashed and were slightly oval but once put right they slipped straight on, no problem.

The guy has more sets of these for sale if anyone with the same sized pipes as mine is interested: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-SCIROCCO-EXHAUST-TAILPIPE-TRIM-TIP-STAINLESS-STEEL-BLACK-EDITION-X-2-/271750286675?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3f45944d53

They look really good on Phoenix Yellow and they go well with the rest of your zed

I'm not sure they would look as good on other coloured zeds though

I think it looks great with the black tips, keep them clean though as when dirty I think they will look rubbish :)

Oo, the 3.0si coupe has 60mm round tips. Might give these ago, nice spot! Black grille and black tips on a black coupe... Worth 20quid to see how it looks I think :driving:

How did you make the tips round? Need to have a look in the garage tonight for a suitable implement.

I have a nice big bench vice, so just gave them a little squash to push them back into round again. :)

Oh OK. How did you manage that with the gap between the inner and outer parts? The outer part seems to be round but the inner is oval.

The inner part on mine protrudes out about 7/8mm beyond where the outer tube ends so it was easy to grip in the vice and squash till it was round

Once you squashed that bit how far could you get them on? Past the grub screw?

Shall pop to a local garage and get it squashed, thanks

They went on until you could see the o/e pipes inside. i.e as far as they'd push on. Make sure the grub screws are backed right out though - I took mine out to knock the tips on, they're quite a snug fit. You don't really need a vice to squash the pipes, a block of wood and a hammer will do it.

Where are you? If you're within striking distance of Wigan you're welcome to pop round and I'll sort them for you
