I hope you all had your money on the record breaking Aussie horse Black Caviar.

It was close, but a win is a win :-)

Congrats on the win! A beautiful horse. Phew for the win! Boy was the race close at the end! Out of curiosity, why would someone bet on something if the odds are such as 1 - 33, where you put down £33 and if win, win £1?? :?

I asked that question at the weekend. Professional betters would risk large amounts under spread betting. Not something a person just putting a the odd quid would do.

the odds were actually 1-4 to 1-6
I was at Ascot , a guy there put £100,000 on he is now in possesion of £120,000 and a very stained pair of underpants

Looked like the 1-11 odds on Frankel were a safer bet judging by the enormous distance he won his race and with a ranking of 140 he is officially the best horse in the world and only 1 point off the highest ever ranking.

It looked to me like the horse (and jockey) might not be used to running on gradients like ours are.

Apparently the horse weighs around 565-575kgs and is just 16.2hh and is even heavier than Denman! Desert Orchid weighed around 550kgs at his peak. Proof again that a good big 'un will always beat a good little 'un.
