Black BMW Emblems

Hi Everyone,
My Black Z4 original emblems are looking a liitle worn and by chance I spotted and absolutely love these BMW emblems in black 8)

*82mm Bonnet

I have two questions I hope you lot could answer:
1- Does anyone here know if I can get these in Ireland or if not in the UK please?
2- Does anyone here know if I can get these for the side indicators on the E85 Z4?

Ebay is awash with good quality gel/acrylic black/white badges. Yes - you can get them for indicator repeaters, but just have to cut pins off.

If you search the forum there are several links, but it's a few years since I purchased mine, so cannot suggest a specific supplier.

Things to note:
The bonnet badge always need some light fettling to fit die to the shape
Steering wheel is difficult and dangerous as the one on the airbag is a clamped on light alloy pressing. Sticking a heavy badge on could be dangerous in the event of an accident.

I should point out that the front badge is actually 70mm not 82mm as some suppliers claim.

Bit late now if you've ordered them already pal.

Not sure I understand why to post asking questions, make no comment on the reply, then go ahead and order without comment.
Anyway, hope they fit and it works out ok.
 
Thx nb67 - The badge is different as you correctly pointed out :( I'm now going to try see if I can get it somewhere else.
cj10jeeper - Sorry but I was anxious and excited and made an impulse buy... Kinda bought the car the same way!!

it should be grand, what i've found is most of the ebay packs like the one you've bought come with the emblem and the silver attaching plate as separate pieces

so what you can do with the bonnet badge if that's the case (like it was with mine) is literally stick the bad on top of whatever is currently is on your bonnet :)
 
Hi All,
Finally, I have my Zed serviced, new clutch and water pump and all the emblems on the car and looking Awesome... Ready for :driving:
Here's what it looks like! The same badges are on the wheels and front bumper too 8)

Looks good.

Just remember that if that steering wheel badge is more than a decal stuck onto the OEM badge, then in the event of an airbag deployment it'll drive it towards you. Could be more than a sting ...
 
Jeeper is spot on, id be very carefull with that airbag roundel matey. Airbag goes off like a gun, it will hurl that badge towards you (face) at mach 2.0. Not something id want to get blinded by if your in a crash.
 
Those badges are absolutely awful.

I had carbon fibre style ones on my Z4 and soon realised they looked rubbish.

Original is best.

There not absolutely awful at all - maybe they just don't photograph right.
The front/back and wheels all match up too! Here is another BMW from the front with them!

I'm actually looking to get black kidney grills too just to complete the look 8)
I do love the original badges and the history behind it (propeller in the sky) but on a black sports car I just felt a more subtle badge could suit it better! Maybe if the Z4 was a different color...

You should research the logo. It's actually the colours of the Bavarian Free State with blue and white in the quadrants, but law prevented them being used as a trademark. Nothing to do with propellers, a common error..

This is correct but I think BMW may have created the propeller myth themselves.
BMW began manufacturing aero engines in 1916 and the BMW roundel was registered October 1st 1917. The lettering and edging were gold.The 'myth' about the 'blue and white propeller' came from an advert in 1929 showing the BMW roundel superimposed over a spinning aircraft propeller. This was also the year that BMW built its first car. A very similar image appeared in the BMW journal in 1942 further 'cementing' the idea that the roundel is a spinning propeller.
Personally I don't care for BMW roundels in any colour combination other than the original. It just doesn't look right and your 'messing' with BMWs 100 year heritage too. :D
 
Not really, as well after they created the logo they acquired a licence to build Pratt and Whitney radial engines and superimposed the logo onto the prop. They were trying to sell engines not create a brand, but easy to see why the confusion arises.

Still this myth is deeply embedded in popular culture and will probably never die
