Black and Silver engine covers - anyone know yet?

So, have done a search for the reasons why some facelift engine covers are Black and some silver - seems an answer was never found?

Is that still the case or does anyone know if there is a difference or significance behind it?

(For those unaware - my 3.0si has a black engine cover, some I've seen have a silver engine cover (the plastic cover) - why?)

Hi Paul. Mine are two-tone, where some of the silver has rubbed off. So I've got the best of both worlds!

I believe that all 06 production models had silver covers and that there had been a change to black covers on all 2007 production cars, irrespective of the model.

Apparently not as the guy above has a 2008 model and seems to suggest he has a silver cover....mystery!

No Mine's black Andy. . . .but I'm sure I've seen an 07 with a silver engine cover Swiftly :?

My 06 was silver. It's not a difference between Sport and SE is it ?

My coupe has the silver cover. I thought that after late 07 they went to the black cover, and that was roughly when they had the cylinder head update to help cure the hva problem. But I could be wrong.

CSL1973 is correct, from what I could tell that the 06 - 07 (early 07) all SI engines had the silver cover, the ones you see with the black cover had the updated cylinder head to supposedly try and cure the HVA issue... whether that did or not I'm inclined to know!

Mine had a silver cover and produced in 2006 with a 2008 plate registration.

Plate registration means nothing to when It was produced.

My database as 2 different engine type:

Engine N52 - 300l (195kW)
Engine N52B30O0 - 3

Could this have any baring on it? maybe 1 is the black and 1 is the silver?
