Apologies to any zed owning solicitors on here but I've just found out they charge for doing nothing.
The original estimate for my separation was given at 1k + vat.....if the separation was a simple one. A few letters have gone back and forth but with very lengthy gaps between them. I've just received a letter telling me that because of the drawn out nature of this case my new estimate is 2k + vat....in other words I'm being charged for the gaps (thin air) where nothing is happening :x

Have you had a statement for work done so far and the running total?

That was at the end of the letter....shes going to send me an interim bill. Be interesting read

Of which writing to you to tell you that the bill will increase is another chargeable event … :x

Had a similar experience with a wnaker dealing with my Dad's estate.

My Mum ended up threatening the prick with going to the solictor's "ombudsban" whatever its called and he eventually reviewed his "Costs" back to pretty much the original estimate.

I had basically drawn up all my dads investment / bank / saving details with account numbers / addresses etc and he said it would be approx £1k to wind everything up.

Nothing changed during the process but the pricks bill was nearer £3k - I was all for going down there and breaking the pricks legs - Mum decided that would be the last resort :)

Had same problem with taking a non-paying client to court. Was quoted £1500 and then during the process there was £500 for this & £500 for that. The client only owed me £5k (which I didn't get!) and the legal bill ended up at £3.5k! Who was the thief - my non paying client or the solicitor? :headbang:

Its a solicitors trick..

Quote low to get the work and inflate the costs when your so far in that its a nightmare to go elsewhere..

Scum of the earth..

This is my second solicitor....the first informed me half way through that he was leaving the practice and as there wasn't another family law solicitor in the practice I'd have to go elsewhere! Here's my bill for £550 thank you
My new solicitor quoted between £1000-£20,000 depending if we had to go to court for 'force of sale' proceedings.

Try getting a fixed price quote? I've never had a problem with them to be honest, it's rogue builders that wind me up

And the link between a Solicitor and a Rhino' is ?

Both are thick skinned and always ready to charge!
