Hi,
I'm more of a lurker here, I'm in the progress of ordering a Z4 (test drive saturday). One of the hurdles I had was to carry a bicycle with the car. Surfing around the web I found two solutions: birdautomative and paulchen.
BUT after speaking with the dealer I was supprised, BMW offers a complete new system for carrying bicycles, the Z4 E89 is the first one to get the possibility. I consist of some fixed pieces underneath the trunk and a removable carrier, almost the same system as you get with a towball (or hitch) mounted carrier, but with this construction you can't tow anything and doesn't need approval of the different governments which is the problem with a towing hook.
So at least in Belgium, Europe there is a solution, it's not cheap: 1300 euro, but as I understood it's also possible for some other constructions to carry other stuff like skis.
When I order and it's installed I'll post pictures of it
