Went to see this http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201609027366151

In the flesh it has alot of stone chips on front and lip is scratched. No biggy but I like my cars in better nick I guess. Interior again is ok but I would describe it as honest but worn although seats are fine. It's like where the keys have been left is scratched etc again not how I look after a car but fixable. The other thing I noticed was water in the gap between the hood and the body. He said it had just beem washed so yes ok maybe. But when the hood was down it was a bit green in the bit that is not visible when the hood was up. Sounds like I'm whinging and complaining but the car does look good from a few paces and is a cracking engine and colour combination and I think the price is decent. Thoughts please on what yous was like when u got it and if I'm being too fussy for a car of this age!

Thanks all

Sounds like your being a little too fussy  Zeds that look showroom in pics always have a few age related issues when you view them close up. Main things are that the body panels are nice and straight and the paintwork isn't tired, or seats aren't excessively worn. Plus it has to drive nice and tight and pull smoothly. 100k miles and 10yrs will show here and there.

100,000 miles on a car is going to show however you look after it. Simple rule applies, buy on condition. If you are happy with the condition or that you can fettle it to the condition you'll be happy with then :D . Otherwise keep looking.

At 100k miles I'd be more concerned about its' mechanical integrity than any minor cosmetic imperfections....
I recently bought a 100k miler and all seemed sweet n dandy on the outside and even though i'd gone to appropriate lengths to investigate its mechanicals it's still thrown up some issues i'm having to sort.
missing topdown fun in the last few decent weeks of summer due to a rough idle problem, a leaking valve cover gasket and a potentially blocked ccv.
described in my posts if interested....

Yeah will need totals it for a longer drive if I go back. I was thinking that 100k ain't much for these modern 2.5 just like the 3.0 I've been thinking about? I am pushing my budget with this so am thinking that maybe I am better getting and 03 04 3.0 litre and have some cash to spare for fixing stuff!

If you're buying this as a second/weekend car, half the fun is bringing it back to tip-top condition.

It sounds like the roof drains near clearing which may suggest the roof motor will have got wet at some point. That may cost you £100-£200 to drain and relocate the motor into the boot and a respray over the front nose and spoiler about £150-£200 , if you can knock the seller down someway to meet you on thses costs , ypu're on your way.

Concentrate on the mechanics and budget these sort of things in over the first year, if your happy with the car and then before long it will all start coming together.

My first Zed was a 2.5se with 118k on it. I had no problems with it whatsoever in 18 months.

Looks quite smart, and i would agree with some of the comments

I decided to go down the 03 3.0ltr route as a starting point to get used to the car, and use some of my budget in fixing any issues that arose.

Cheers
