Bird strike! not pretty

Duck! Bang, oh I ducked aright!

but it was a pigeon, face height on the screen edge (fortunately) in the outside lane of the M5 at sufficient speed to explode the poor thing and cover the guy behind in feathers and stuff. The wipers worked overtime and I'm still digging the mess out from behind the surround fortunately no damage to the Mini but a close thing.

I hit one lie down on the bumper last weekend, and drove over it. There was a horrible 'pop' noise, I felt so bad about it

Fortunately no head in the air duct...

More 'debris' in the wheel well...

I saw a similar cloud of feathers cover the guy behind - that was quite an impressive explosion actually

Reminds me of a time I used to sell cars. We were told that when valuing a part exchange to Touch and rub any damage so the customer saw how bad the car was. A Chinese man who spoke no English came into part exchange his car. I saw damage on the front bumper, so bent down and started rubbing it and picking the flaking paint and debris off. After a few seconds of me picking off bits of debris the Chinese man turned round and said 'Ah, Fox'.

Back to bird stories though;

#1 Quite a few years back I hit an owl on the old A40 when it swooped for something on the central reservation and ended up embedded in my front grill. I had to pull over (as the wing kept flapping over the bonnet upsetting the wife, and had to check the radiator for damage). Ended up having to dismantle the owl with a set of pliers to get it off the car, while the wife made gagging noises in the passenger seat...

#2 Hit a pigeon in my Celica a few years back. Checked but couldn't see the bird or any damage, so carried on driving to the airport. Left the car for a week, and on my return noticed a smell of cooking chicken with an aftertaste of decomp. Did a more detailed inspection, and embedded behind the grill and under the radiator was said pigeon - the grill had snapped back after the bird strike and though there was no visible damage, the grill had a vertical split. Ended up having to remove the bumper and get the bird out using a broomstick. It was maggot ridden, hence the decomp smell...
