So in my apartment block there are reserved parking places, my space just so happens to be under the flight path of a bunch of seagulls who plague the area and quite often s**t on my car overnight. Most mornings I have to go around the car and remove spots and splashes of poo, not particularly glamorous, but with only one allocated space per flat, not a lot I can do about it (although a shotgun does spring to mind). :evil: Does anyone know of a product specifically designed to remove bird crap, preferably in disposable wipes? I normally just use a wet-wipe, seems to do the job, but I've no idea if this is removing the alkali chemicals in the crap that actually do the damage to the paint.
 
I've got a can of Supagard bird poo remover in my boot. It's brilliant. Don't think it comes in wipe form tho.
You spray it on and it foams up, wait a minute then wipe and the whole lot comes off. Wouldn't be without it.
 
Read an article on bird crap on paint a while back. What I recall does the most damage, is that it dries and shrinks at a different rate to the lacquer on your car, so after a few days of drying out and getting damp again in the evening, it leave a pit in the lacquer. rather than a chemical reaction. So the most important thing is to shift it ASAP.. :o
 
Eeeek! That's scary, especially when I have to leave my car when I go away. I've asked the building owners, on several occasions, to put those spikes on the edges of the roof where the seagulls perch but they have consistently refused saying that it's not something they consider a maintenance issue. I guess I might have to invest in a car cover for when I can't wipe them off every day.

If you are leaving it out i would def invest in a car cover.

I hardly use mine... But when i do it comes in use!

Yes I like that foam idea... I had to wash a large amount off my front wing this morning, that bird had a serious amount to eat yesterday!
 
People knock Supagard a lot but I use their Ph neutral shampoo and alloy protector etc (freebies with the car) and I would definitely buy them again. The bird poo stuff is brilliant.

I have the same situation. The only answer is a car cover. Bit of a pain every night, but at least i don't have to spend several minutes every morning washing off the poo, seeds, resin, twiggs that have accumulated overnight.

The only problem there, is that if your car is dirty, the cover can grind grit around on your paint and ruin it more than bird poo possibly could..
 
Another :thumbsup: for the Supagard foam. Not cheap - but it's good!
My bonnet got a drenchining from a low flying albatros the other day - what a mess! :x

We have a falconer who walks around the dockyard, with a large bird of prey on her arm. The gulls go mad when they are on site.

Personaly I wish we could use an M61A1 6 barrel rotary cannon, 4500 20mm rounds pm. :evil:

I dont know if people knock the actual product, its more the way it is sold - they sell it as a magic protector for the paintwork, yet apply it ontop of a poorly swirled car. No where near as good as a proper detail.

Even a new car can have swirls!!!! Inflicted by the stealer!

Yours was free, and if you are happy with the application, then cool.

I've got some of the autoglym wipes, but most times I just use some megs quick detailer and a microfibre.

The problem with bird crap when it has dried, is getting it off without causing scratches from the seeds etc within it, so it needs to be soaked off. The wipes and the qd arent brilliant at staying on and soaking, so this foam sounds like a good idea.

Thanks for the link Carol, have ordered some, the Autoglym wipes are ok for light soiling but I think the Supaguard will be better for any stubborn deposits :)
