Bird Droppings

In the last couple of weeks I have awoken to find a bird has crapped on my car. Both times I've cleaned it off within 24 hours (latterly with Autoglym's bird dropping remover) but both times the droppings have etched the clear coat. You can't feel the outline of the droppings at all with your finger. I've tried claying, tried Scratch X, tried polishing, all to no avail.

The question is...do I have recourse to claim on Paintwork Warranty ? The car has been detailed recently and is wearing Swissvax Divine and is cleaned every week using wash mitt, 2 buckets etc.

I had similar marks on mine too - one of them I didn't notice for more then 24 hours (it was on the roof and must have happened when I was in work till late). I was gutted but having washed, clayed, glazed and waxed yesterday/today, I suddenly realized I cant see the poo marks any more!

I think your car needs a good wax job. Did you try to use a clay bar to remove the spot? Give it a try.

Rolf-Dieter,

It was professionally detailed 6 weeks ago. clayed, polished, waxed etc.

I know it's not quite the same problem, but thought I'd mention that I took one in the face today from above on my walk home from work.

Good luck with the paintwork.

Paint renovator from Auto Glym is supposed to work.

Weirdly enough, when my X5 was new - bird dropping on the bonnet, removed and a patch on the paint like yours. A month later - all gone by itself, never knew why.

guvnor,

I see, do you have some clay? perhaps try it on the area and see if it gets smooth to the touch after you rub it. I had the paint protection done on my car perhaps that makes a difference. My wife feeds the birds and you know what they say feed them and they will bombard you or something to that effect, well I got hit today again parking outside the garage. I just wipe it off right away and all is smooth and cool then 8) Hope you get it resolved okay. Good luck with it.

yeah, I have the paint protection as well. Supposedly allows for up to 24 hours in full sun. Is a thin teflon like layer protecting the paint.
