Bird crap marks

First off, Happy New Year everyone! Hope you had a great Christmas and New Year break.

My first thread of the year is about an annoying issue that I noticed at the start of December. I was in Paris for a week at the end of November/start of December, when I came back I found that bird s**t had been left lying on my bonnet despite the fact my dad would normally keep an eye out for this sort of thing. Anyway, when I washed the car (the day I came back) it became clear that the bird s**t had caused an imperfection in my bonnet. :headbang: :headbang:

My question is, what can I do to fix it? It's only small and mainly noticeable at night when light glints on the bonnet. Either way, it annoys me and I'd like to do something about it.

I had a similar issue with bird poo on a previous BMW, tried a rotary poliher on it as nothing else would touch it, but the bird poo acid had destroyed the clear lacquer coat. I ended up getting the bonnet resprayed for the same reason you mentioned, it annoyed me too

Hopefully it might polish out for you
 
If you got to it in time a bit of light polish/cutting compound should get it out. Make sure you get it protected after though.

this should do. just be careful, i put some royaly shitty marks on my bonet trying to move bird poo marks with G3 cutting compound and a cloth. luckily they came off when a DA was used.
 
I won't be respraying the bonnet, I don't intend to keep the car for that much longer so it wouldn't be worth it. I was thinking of calling a professional paint restorer about it? I would be apprehensive of doing damage with cutting compound.
 
I don't have a DA, I was going to tackle this annoying issue with some Meguiars Ultimate Compound and a bit of elbow grease. I figured with the blemish being so small I would be able to effectively do it by hand?

Any thoughts on Meguiars Ultimate compound?
 
I have had this problem aswell and I tried used the Meguiars without a DA.
It did improve the mark but it was still visible, I may possibly try a more abrasive compound.... or when I have more time I will get the DA on it and see how it does.

BMW used this type of lacquer for only a year or 2 in production, they then realized bird crap burnt the lacquer and changed it.... !!!!
 
i tried using some farecla stuff G3 or G10 i cant remember it was in a yellow/burgundy pot. but it made a right mess. i might as well have used sand paper. I was going to use the G3 swirl remover thing you can get in halfords but then i went to a polishing workshop with shinerama and used a DA there. is there anyone near you who has one as you wont need much?

just be careful not to screw it up like i did :)
 
I think I will give the Meguiars a go, failing that I think I will bring the car back to the guy who painted it. I know his family and him well and think he'd be happy enough to sort it, I know he would do a good job and I doubt it would cost me much. Saves the possible issue with more abrasive compounds or sand paper.
