I have an 07 M Roadster I purchased new. I find during the day with the top up and my sun glasses on, the tach & speedo are almost impossible to read, not illuninated sufficiently. The lighting rheostat has no effect on this unless the rest of the panel gauges are turned on but even then, at full bright, the tach & speedo are still insufficiently illuminated. Does anyone else see this as an issue? I found out from the dealer there are no bulbs involved, the lighting is from an LED so installing bulbs of higher wattage is not possible. The dealer tells me the light switch rheostat should control the tach & speed gauges independent of whether or not the rest of the panel gauges and controls are turned on, but as stated before, mine doesn't work that way, Can enybody shed some light on this? (no pun intended)

The Brits on here got about 2 hours of sunshine last year ..
Not nice to tease them just after the shortest day of the year..

Up here in the Great White North ...
We have to have daytime running lights ...
So Im thinking if the only way you can have any impact on the tach / speedo dash light is when the lights are on ...
Maybe when those conditions present themselves, just run your headlights ...
And of course don't forget your sunscreen.

It's also just been confirmed us Brits have had the wettest year on record.

Regarding the dial illumination, on the ///M they are on all the time so running with lights on might actually Mae no difference. I'm guessing with the roof down and the sun right behind you there ist a lot you can do.

It's funny how us cold weather folk assumed Arizona Coyote was referring to top down conditions, though he specifically said "with the top up".

The dealer must have assumed he had an ///M to make that statement. The LEDs are intended for night time illumination, they'll never be bright enough to make up the contrast from full Arizona sun. I'm afraid there isn't much to be done than just learn to deal with it. Sorry Paul, you'll not get much sympathy from this predominantly coldish weather forum. :P
 
The Z4 / Z4M cluster has always been a disappointment. On the M, it's white-backlit, while the rest of the controls (radio, climate, etc) are all orange. WTF were they thinking on that one? The tach & speedo look crummy on top of the fact that the illumination is totally insufficient.

Record year for rain in Britain eh? Here in Arizona, we continue our long-running drought.. less than 4 inches of rain for the entire year. Lots of sunshine as usual, and no shortage of heat during the summer, of course.
