Bilstein B4's and Lowering springs.

Hi all,

I'm looking to replace both front shock absorbers on my zed as they are well and truly goosed. Don't want to spend a fortune so I am considering fitting OEM spec Bilstein B4's and potentially a set of lowering springs. Just wondered if anyone has experienced any problems with this combination or will it be fine? What are the best springs to fit? Not looking to deck the car, just want to have it sitting a little nicer. Also, will I need to fit spacers?

Thanks.

Someone will be along shortly with some answers soon l hope..?...because I'd also like to know this information

If by 'lowering springs' you are considering going from a base spring set to the Sport Package (aka M-Sport) BMW springs or their Suplex - Lesjofors equivalent spring sets, then yes, B4's are a pretty good choice for the road. That's what I recently installed on my 2006 E86 3.0Si with Sport package - I'm happy because my coupe is already quite stiff and the ride with B4's is compliant enough that my wife enjoys riding with me, even on some not-so-smooth roads.

I don't have experience with more aggressive lowering springs on a Z4, but if you install even shorter/stiffer spring sets, you may want a different strut - maybe a B8.

Hopefully you'll get some additional input.

What year, engine, spec etc is your Z4 ? Is it already on Sport suspension ? :?

This was my old zed SE with B4 shocks and eibach pro springs, and i never had any complaints. Spacers are personal choice, plus it depends what the offsets are on the style of wheels you've got.

18 inch wheels with 10mm spacers on front.

19 inch wheels with no spacers

Hope this helps :)

Sorry to jump into a thread but Big Andra, are those 224 wheels? I've got those on my preface e85 and they stick out at the back. How have you got round the problem please?

I have the Bilstein B12 Pro Kit which is the B6's with the Eibach's.

It's lowered the car 30mm from the Sport height that it had.

If you're going to lower the front you should really do the back too unless you want that Hot Wheels look.

Hi all, apologies for the late reply.

Rockhopper is correct, my car is a 2007 2.0 E85 sport.

Big Andra, how much does the eibach pro kit drop it by?

They are indeed 224's. I didn't think there was too much poke on the rear. Having the car lowered tucks the wheel in a bit.

If memory serves, I think it was 30mm from standard se suspension.

Perhaps you have a little more negative camber than I do? By the way, great looking car.

It was. If I had a double garage I wouldn't have sold it. Needed the garage for my new purchase, so the zed unfortunately had to go.

Next question.... where can I buy the Eibach pro kit from? I'm struggling to find them for the 2.0 e85??

This is the cheapest set I can find.

[ref]Big Andra[/ref], nice looking car, I have the same colour combo but the regular seats, 2003 3.0i. did you swap the seats for those sports ones or did it come with them? the standard seat I have is rubbish for anything other than going straight, it has no side support at all, its like cornering seated on a park bench!

I originally swapped them out for a set of e46 m sport seats, then eventually got my hands on a nice set of the z4 m sport ones.
