Bike Racks or Bike in the boot...?

Any issues with the upper hooks on the glass, its the only thing that puts me off,or do I get a totally superior audi tt (joke).

I am dragging this topic back from the past as I could do with some further advice. I have bought a Saris Bones 1 after seeing it fitted to someone's Roadster on here. However, because I have a spoiler the same as on the pic, the Bones 1 does not fit. Now, do we think the Sentinel will fit over the spoiler? Or am I going to need to splash a load of cash on the genuine BMW one if EBAY???

ouch thats expensive, not sure that would work on the coupe, the site says its for the E89

I'm afraid I'd have to spring for the BMW OEM rack. As I ride an old Rans v-rex recumbent and the MTB is an old monocoque framed Specialized. They have to set on their wheels.

I have the two bike sentinel and the OEM spoiler so can check for you. I've never used mine on the Zed and never would TBH.

When do you need to know by and I'll see if I can test fit.

Got off my arse and got the rack out of the loft

Sorry it's a bit dark but as you can see it does clear the spoiler although I didn't do all the straps up, and no it's not for sale as I will need to use it at some point to get the kids bikes out and about.

I would be too worried about marks on the paint etc from the bike rack
+1 scary stuff!

Don't worry chaps as said won't get used on my Zed, that's why I bought a shed a couple of years ago, now have the company car which I treat like my own so will have to modify the brackets with extra rubber to ensure no damage.

So long as you dont throw it around as you put the thing on these racks are fine. Our paint is pretty sturdy and foam pads arent going to damage it! They also dont damage the car if you're careful and either adding clear wrap to the boot or extra padding to the rack itself makes them even safer. Its the angle of the bike you need to get right. If thats wrong then it can be an awkward carry. I've used two different racks on both roadster and coupe and never had any issues. Long runs at speed on the motorway or back roads of Britain.

Been using my sentinel 2 since April 3-4 times a month and ive had no problems at all. The paintwork is fine, no damage to it at all. Id recommend putting the front wheel in the boot also, just to be safe. If

I hadnt seen anyone with one of these in my area until this weekend, passed another zed sterling grey on Friday between Ingham and Barnham on my way back from Thetford Forrest, gave me a flash i wasnt quick enough with the flash but got a wave in. Was it any of you guys?

stupid question, when a saris bike rack is fitted can the boot be opened - i'm think more on a hatch back car than the zed

4555spendl,

I notice that you've got the feet against the tailgate rather than on the bumper. I've just bought a bones carrier and it says that it should be supported by the bumper. Have you had any problems with movement or scuffs and scratches on the bodywork?

I'm curious as looking to fit mine this weekend......

I know this is an old thread but i have been out cycling around rutland water this WE and i took the 2 bikes on the rack, it was absolutely great! From home was around 45-50min journey and they didnt move - AND i tested them on bends and rounabouts (carefully ;)

Combination used: saris sentinel + hatch huggers, all cost around £50

I know the zed isnt meant for this but man was it great turning up at the camp site with the roof down, bikes on back!

so in order to get my bike on my car its best to sell the roadster and get a coupe!

Yesterday, I ordered a Saris Bones 3 bike rack for my Z4 roadster 2006 model, but then after ordering it, I saw it on another site where it said it was not suitable for a Z4. Surely not! I thought the Bones was suitable for just about any car. Has anyone else fitted one? The other thing I was looking at is the Bird Automotive rack, where the lower legs fit into two receiver pipes mounted under the chassis, so the rack doesn't actually touch the body of the car at all. Looks really good, but it's quite expensive at nearly £500, imported from the USA. Check it out at birdautomotive.com. Has anyone installed one of these?

I've posted a few times on this. Search my posts for word Saris to get advice and pictures.
