Bike Rack

Thought I'd post a few pics after fitting the Saris Bones rack today (with hatch huggers)

Very sturdy, hardly any weight on the rear screen. Drove cautiously on the way there (Lake Vyrnwy) and threw it around on the way back with no problems.

Bike weighs about 9kilos, and probably wouldn't be so confident with a heavy 2nd bike on there.

Picture quality not great (iPhone)

 Looks good. Shame the Bones doesn't fit the roadster as it's one of the best looking/compact racks out there.

Chosen to match the interior colour? :poke:

Good effort, glad I don't have to carry my bikes on the Z4 as my biggest bike weighs in at 15.4kg (34lbs)

Both car & bike are black & red so thought i'd carry on the theme with the red rack - not convinced yet but time will tell..!

Is that an Allez you've got there?

Im very interested in this, ive just bought a Bianchi and am in need of a decent rack. Good purchase?

Hi it's a Specialized Sirrus Elite - bought it in 2010 and a great bike. Very pleased with the rack, and I believe it's the only one that fits the coupe. It's very, very sturdy and great quality - not cheap but get what you pay for at £120 ish. The only addition I recommend is the Hatch Huggers which avoids hooking onto the rear screen.

I'm doing a London-Paris charity cycle in July, so an essential purchase if I'm to be fit in time..!

wills, good bit of kit, rack and bike. Coupe owners have been looking for something.

Good luck with London-Paris - friend of mine is doing it, training like a lunatic at the moment.

I was meant to be in training for various events over the summer but managed to fracture my spine in a drunken accident last weekend. I'll defo check this out as im bored of the roads around here, saying that i have seen a thread on here showing you how to fit a bike in the boot!

Yes you can fit a bike in the boot (in several pieces tho!), mine is an Xl so unfortunately it was a handlebars off job and took me a long time to put back together! For smaller bikes it might be as simple as just both wheels off.

Hope you've healed ok & be safe (& sober..!)

Be careful some years ago some friends had a Renault Laguna and fitted a Hollywood rack the securing straps passed through the top of the screen in the same way yours appear to do and where kept in place by dumbell like load spreaders, they may have overloaded the rack but it twisited something and caused the rear screen not to seal properly, can't remember the final outcome but I'm pretty sure they got some money back from Hollywood and I think possibly a new rear screen.

Nice job Wills. Though I'd still be a bit nervous of that rear window. Take it nice and easy.....
I posted some pics (edit below) showing my roadster with my old cheapo halfords rack securely fitted (with cut-up inner tube rubber protecting all paintwork contact). Travelled far and wide with no problems so far, though I'm extra careful of traffic calming stuff and avoid higher speeds.
