Bike rack for Z4

Just come off the phone with BMW having spotted a Bike Rack for the e89 on BMWs web site as their pricing and suitability information could be best described as unclear. With several versions shown priced at £300 -£400 I nearly dropped the phone when a very helpful lady in the parts dept quoted over £1500.

Whilst I'm fortunate in not having an overdraft at the end of every month, I equally dont like to think I'm being taken for a ride ( pardon the pun) . Am I out of touch and getting old or am I not alone in thinking this is rediculous. Suspect it may be the former. S

If you get any more details (uk cost etc)or buy one of the these could you post an update as I have been looking for a bike rack but didn't want to pay the outrageous amount for an official BMW version and apparently you can't use any other rack on it.

Although Ive not had chance to call Bird Automative the rack does look good allowing the roof to be open and closed with the rack in place and cost wise its just under $500 with several shipping options on top. The only draw back is the need to leave the 2 fixing pipes in place under the number plate unless can spend an hour or so fixing these in place everytime you want to use the rack.

Personally I think the looks of the Z4 are by far its greatest asset and I'm not sure I'd want to compromise this with the 2 pipes permanently in place
