Hi all,

Got a quote from local dealer and the rear mounted bike carrier for my new z4 will set me back £1487 (including VAT & labour).

This is the the only carrier that doesn't need a tow bar, it will be connected to the chassis underneath the rear bumper and it's removable when not used.
-The labour cost alone is £460 (4 hours).

Is this really the only way to have a bike carrier?

Thank you!

So you can see what I'm on about here is the photo from the BMW site:

Should save you some money even after you've factored in shipping costs.

Thanks but I just read the info on that link, it says:

..."Z4 M models are not available".

Mine is an E89 2013 with M Sport.

Just remember you'll need an extra set of lights with number plate - got a £60 quid fine many years back & still see people being stopped because it obscures them, so think this is the reason why so expensive from Stealers

Should be ok then, cos an M-Sport isn't an "M" car.....even if you've put an "M" badge on the back!

It states the reason is due to exhaust configuration. I dont think they make an e89 "M".

M sport isn't an 'M' and I'm not sure whey that would make any difference anyhow.

If you need a carrier I'd call them to explore it as the BMW one is just silly.

correct, they don't make an e89 M. upgrading to M sport only gets you slightly different body kit (including the diffuser at the back, which may/may not affect the bike rack installation). and a few badges inside the car.

I think they must be giving you a bike too for that money

haha ye right, no but I did get a miniature can of coke (150 or 200ml) when I was waiting for the "accessories specialist" to calculate the price.

oh yeah, always take the "free" drink! I drive past my stealer every day and often feel like popping in to have a coffee and watch some TV.......it may be free at time of consumption, but we've paid for it upfront!

apparently they also offer a free wash and vacuum every saturday morning, it's a bit out of my way otherwise I'd go in!

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!

The wash will NOT be free!

Again, it will "appear" free at the time, but then will cost you either money, or time, in sorting the swirls!!!!!

(not sure about the vacuum though!)

Could be worse, hard top for my 1st zd was over 2K list. got it for my 03 at cost for £1400, used it for 06 and 08 and sold it on ebay for £1300.

Unsure if I would want to have it fitted. If I was a keen cyclist I would get a cheap 2nd car.

Hay mine has the ski holders/ 2nd golf bag unsure the use of this other than a nice compartment.

That's an impressive list of cars!

I could use another car but I'd like to use my sports car for sports :p

I also have that strange compartment with a tiny shelf in the middle, haven't used it yet. they should have fitted a fridge there instead lol

i must be mad to be on my 5th. I have never had a new car as such so forgot I need to keep below 4K revs and run it in.

understand about the use of the car. I love the zd for that reason, I can take 2 weeks of holiday luggage, weeks shopping and I travel 23 miles each way to Matlock so hills, whatever the weather, snow its a bit more interesting. I did consider a 2nd car for bad weather ( new set of rims would be more than a cheap run around) but in the 10 years I have owned zds last year was the only time I worked from home due to snow for a day, normally in November and March Im abroad in the sun for a week which seem to be the worst times back in blightly.
