There are loads of people on here who have spent enough money on their cars to have bought a newer one with a bigger engine. People spend 000s doing up / extending a house that they could potentially have spent on buying a newer, bigger one. Others do the same with boats, sheds, furniture, bikes and all manner of things. They don't do it because they are sh1t with money, or lack common sense - they do it because they love what they have, where it is, how it looks, how it feels etc. - they just want to make a hobby of it, see how far they can go, or simply make what is almost perfect that bit better. Jonny's car is mint - he'd probably never get another one in as good condition now because of their age, or he'd spend as much (if not more) money getting it up to his standard. Personally I think we should stop bashing him and help him do what he wants to, not what we think he should. Poking some fun is all well and good, but come on...

Dropping a 3.0 engine in seems odd when you could buy a 3.0 in silver and transfer the mods over then sell the 2.0.

Sorry but this is ridiculous now... with the love of mods and attention to detail, had they been done on a 3.0 you'd end up with a car that puches well above it's weight, and come resale time if you didn't want to disassemble the mods you could probably sell it at a premium as it is a well specced car with lots of cool mods, very appealing. As it is it looks quite cool but anyone who wants to buy it will almost definitely be put off by the small engine.
So far I have seen no logical argument for not chopping it in for a 3.0 and transferring the mods... it will be the cheaper option, better for insurance, more reliable and have better resale value.

Do what you want with your money, I don't think anyone is bothered about that part. But ignore the sound mechanical advice you've been given so far and you'll seriously start to hate your car. Putting FI on a car/engine that was never designed for FI and your asking for problem after problem unless your a competent mechanic that enjoys spending time tinkering.
Chop in, get an M or a 3.0 and transfer. Then you'll have the show and the go with the reliability. Or if your really not going to cry in 10 years time with the re-sale value then transplant. Oh, and save that re-map money as well
Sometimes the truth hurts mate. I've seen nothing but wise words in this thread, certainly nobody is trying to bash you or your car, which everyone enjoys reading about.
If you really love your car as much as you say, why not just try and enjoy it as-is for a while? From recent posts it seems you get bored of it unless there's a new roof/wheels/bumper/exhaust going on every week! I did so much to mine in the first month of ownership that I barely got to drive it, the last couple of months have been great because I've just enjoyed using it.

What answer were you expecting (just out of interest)? There are very few tuning options for the N46, as it's not a commonly tuned engine. The advice given on this thread is an engine swap, or swap the car for a bigger engined example. Both are good options, but it appears you're not keen on either?
JE i totally agree with what MR B has said and i also agree with the comments people have offered, Ultimately its your car and your call and what ever you do i am sure you will end up with a car you love and will be the topic of many a conversation. And what ever project you choose i am sure that everybody on here will muck in with constructive advice and help when they can. Somebody correct me if i am not right. :tumbleweed: :tumbleweed:

This is not true we are just bring realistic. When I sold my last zed which I had from 70 miles on the clock I was pretty disheartened in buying a used ///M. But in reality my old car wasn't perfect as I'm sure yours isn't, but you don't see the problems as they appear over time and you don't see them as you would on somebody else's car. I bet we could sell pick holes in issues with it.
Look at an 3.0 or ///M and see what the upgrade cost would be. Nearly all your mods are transferable and at minimal cost including the roof especially if you bought silver.
Putting a used engine in Denys you logic of only you have driven your car IMO.
At the end of the day you need to do what you think is best, we are just giving you our opinion.
