Two men from Wales have recently been jailed for fraud. Part of the fraud was buying cars on credit with false details but the one that concerns me is the fraudulent use of registration numbers. I bought my son an M2 and purchased a private registration number for it. One of the registration numbers these two jailbirds had been fraudulently displaying was my sons. They had at least enough intelligence to display it on a BMW car but not bright enough to choose the same model and color as my sons M2. Sad really but at least we know that the ANPR cars the Police use do actually work. The only place my son has posted photos of his car is Facebook so beware when you post photos. Blank out the Reg No. of the car! :poke:

TBH, if they wanted a reg for a specific make/model, all they have to do is walk down the street. I think them using your son's number was just unlucky. At the end of the day, whichever number they use will belong to someone, other than themselves..

As above, just coincidence I would guess. If it had been the same model and colour then probably not.

When you’ve had 10 dart charge fines, two pcn’s and a warning for driving down the hard shoulder all within 12 months the you have a problem.

That was a legitimate number plate on a foreign van, identical to mine, just different spacing. Nothing I could do and a pita to sort out.

But surely something's not quite right in the motoring world if people just stick whatever number plate they think up on to their vehicle and we all say "yes that happens"?

Most cars these days have their VIN No. clearly displayed through the windscreen and now with the lack of a tax disc to verify the vehicle reg no you would think that there must be a better way of doing things. Perhaps if the reg plates had by law to have the VIN No. printed on them it would be a start so that ANPR cameras could pick up the lack of VIN No or incorrect VIN No being displayed?

Or perhaps the police could just shoot the bastards at the side of the road instead of issuing a meaningless ticket to produce?
