I didn’t know a 2.8i petrol engine was tiny...

The 28i isn’t 2.8litres, it’s the same engine as the 18i & 20i at 2litres. That’s hardly tiny either

An interesting post by RobbiZ4. My car is a late 2009 and I have SmartTOP fitted which allows me to override the speed setting when opening the roof. I haven’t enabled it but if there were no major changes to the roof system could I use it?

Well, I've activated it on my 2011 Z4 since years. I appreciate it very much, but use it only while driving with a low speed of 20 Km/h as maximum, not for any show effects.
Using it this way I don't see any additional risk.

Does anyone know if my 20i with a build date of 19/04/2012 have the revised pump or not? Does anyone also know what the additional wiring in the loom was for?

Easy to check by yourself within a minute:

• Remove the floor panel and foam on top of the pump.

• Count the visible electrical valvs on top of the hydraulic unit. There are always 3 on the left. The 4th valve is mounted on the right, if any available.

Are the hydraulic units interchangeable? IE, can a 4 solenoid version be fitted retrospectively to a 3 solenoid car without changing the wiring loom & still work as a 3 solenoid version would? :?

Well I'm pleased to report I've got the four valve pump set up (I think! ) . Here's a few snaps of the four valves in my car for anyone thinking of checking.

Sorry the pics I've posted are upside down. As Robbi said, the three valves are on the left with the fourth on the right.

Whoever said care trumps year/model hit the nail on the head. I have a lovely 2010 with 3L N52 and 6spd with average miles without a single problem (knock on wood). The single previous owner kept it waxed & got only BMW service on a regular basis. And I doubt they drove it very hard. I changed the side markers (eBay), added a smart top module, and replaced the roof relays per RobbiZ4 (thank you).
Maybe I should have bought a newer year but I felt this roadster was a good one and it's been a joy to own & drive.
I almost bought the wrong car based upon my ideal holy grail. But a last minute title search found the car at a salvage auction (thank you google). That's when I made the call on the safe bet.
Can't wait for the Guvnor to release us. Stay safe

Did you also not know a 2.8i is actually a 28i and is a 2 litre?

Therein lies my ignorance of modern BMW’s.

I prefer straight sixes, normally aspirated and rear wheel drive. Each to their own...

It’s a pleasant short run for us to Greenfield. In normal times we would probably have done a run to Uppermill for coffee and cake. However . . . . . .
