Better than an M ?

US, UK and European roads all vary greatly.

On many of the roads I have driven in the USA, there'd be nothing wrong at all with how the E89 is setup.

UK roads are something quite special indeed.

That would be me

Well i'm sure you are used to criticism by now , i found it amateurish , lame & didn't engage me at all :( though the DCT description did give me a laugh  & for those who were thinking of upgrading to a 35is at least they will know it makes a "pleasant" noise
i don't waste a lot of my time watching youtube car reviews but here's one for comparison https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8i0RLro4Hmw

There seems to be this extreme dichotomy with so many reviewers and owners liking the E89 but saying it wanders or it is tail happy or whatever. Meanwhile , I know stock E89s to be very enjoyable on back roads with very good balance and adhesion, and even being used for track-time (here in the USA). I have explored the limits rather thoroughly but they are foolishly high for public roads. There is certainly no wander. So I wonder what is the issue with some of them? Perhaps it is the combination of the M adaptable suspension and the tires which are the variables. And in case you are wondering, I have owned, and tracked a variety of cars including Porsche. Also I am not saying it is the ultimate track handling car. It may be the ultimate enjoyable, all weather, versatile, sports, roadster/coupe.

There just seems to be a fundamental mistake in its chassis somewhere, even on premium non run flats there’s very little steering feel, and with the 35is I found an unnerving understeer then snap oversteer which to me felt like weight transfer, I’ve likened it to a tank of water in the boot sloshing from one side to the other. Maybe it’s the roof weight high up in the car. Really spoils the car. I’ve no idea how you would dial it out, I suspect you couldn’t, it’s just too heavy with this chassis design fault.

Such a shame as it looks great, fab interior, goes like stink, fantastic engine and DCT in the 35 models. Agonised over selling mine for over a year, loved it but was ultimately disappointed. That said if you don’t mind a non pin sharp light car there’s little to to better them as an everyday fast open top roadster.

All just imo obviously.

Same review has already surfaced here https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=105352

I ran my 35i (remapped) with MPSS on H&Rs with stock geo , was never or will ever be either a ZMC ZMR or Boxster but they can be driven fast & they can & do corner & handle very well indeed :driving: a 3 day Normandy trip with ZMs & a Alpina the twinturbo easily held its own & never once lost composure or felt like it was reaching the edge of its capabilities & we were often into 3 numbers

Can't win them all!

Thanks for watching in any case. I wish I could have reviewed my Z4 M, but I wasnt running the channel when I had it. So much better than my E46, and so much worse at the same time. A car truly full of character traits... and defects!

I know, we let you lead so we didn't lose you
Not only that Ed, it’s hard to pass an E89 because of their fat butt, no matter how slow they are going

It may also please you guys to know that this video has done quite well for me. It has been a popular video and as I don't advertise the channel it means people are looking for info on these cars

Most of the views will have come via the forum. Can't say I made it to anywhere near the end though.

If the intent of the YT reviews is money making then fair play to you , however it only confirms my opinion of it  a drive out with a lacklustre half hearted review that lacked any real enthusiasm to keep me interested

I've been meaning to ask Mr Wilks, what *did* you think of my video? Lol

Approx 1% of views came from this forum, so thanks to all. It's good to encourage discussion, positive or otherwise.

I think it is a shame M Division never got a chance to have a go at the E89, but I suspect it was not a great platform to work from. I look forward to the new Z5/Supra, hopefully M get to work on that.
