Better mpg on newer Z4's?

Hi Guys

I'm looking to get a Z4 and just noticed on the Used BMW site that the pre 2006 Z4's appear to have a lower combined mpg than the post 2006 models - is there any truth in this or are they all about the same? Also, am I right in saying that the 2.2l and 2.5l are fairly consisted on mpg?

Thanks for your help

Pete

a pre 2.2 and 2.5 is a 5 spd, the facelift are all 6sp.. which i would imagine would make a big difference on the motorway.

Cant see there being much of a different between the pre and post 3.0 though - but they are different engines so maybe :?

My understanding is that the newer engine is more fuel efficient as well having more power.I'm sure there will be some owners along in a minute to verify this.

Got my Z4 2006 3.0Si model last week and the 3 runs on the motorway (125mile each way) at around 70-80 returned me 37.1 which I was pretty amazed at to be honest across the M62 and down the M6 to Telford.
Did the same run this morning and zero'd the MPG counter at home and returned 35.3.

Runnning around town and general pottering is around 25-28 as long as you don't accelerate hard everywhere. Thankfully I'm over 40 now so have gone past the driving like a tit everywhere :D
Did all that with the M3, Scooby and Evo8 FQ330

Model citizen now ... ahem :P

the block of the engine on the n52 (newer one) is magnesium alloy, which is lighter - and only 4 years old so more stringent co2 demands made it more fuel efficient
