Best wheels and tyres

Spacers should indeed be a" must have" on all OEM staggered et 47 / et 50 18s as they already sit in the arch to some tune :cry:

Technically the 436 wheels will fit straight on but would sit 4mm further in on front / 8mm further in on rear so buying them to improve the cars looks would only work with spacers , i wouldn't consider them without in all honesty :cry:
 
I thought the fronts would sit slightly further out? Not in?
But in any regards, agreed that spacers is pretty much a must even with 107 or 108 wheels! :thumbsup:

Paddy I'll have a look at some 107s to see what they look like. Diverging, I note you are a primary head. I am retired now and have been for a long time but I did the job for over 20 years. Mind you I think it is considerably harder these days.

Yes, best job in the world- just wish the politicians would keep their noses out and let us get on with doing what we love.
Here's my car on 107s- I'm slight biased but love these as they were designed alongside the car, as were 108s but I don't think the 108s have aged as well.

Thank you everybody. Lots more information to process. Clearly spacers are a must, no matter which wheels I eventually end up with and no runflat tyres. The 16 inch wheels that the car came with already have spacers on them, although I'm not sure what size they are. They don't look too bad, just a bit on the small size for the car.
I've placed an ad in the 'for sale' forum. Hopefully something suitable will turn up. In truth I would feel happier buying from a forum member than fron eBay or Gumtree.

Hi Paddy

Did you notice the deliberate error. The word I wanted was 'digressing 'not as I wrote 'diverging'. I can only put it down to age.
 
ET 52 is quite recessed, I changed my wheels for an ET 35 and put 15mm spacers on the rear. Try a website called willtheyfit.com and that will give you a guide.
 
For me there's only one wheel that looks perfect on the car, and that's the 18', type 108 split rims.

Steve's car on page one of this thread In his signature has them.

It's not that other rims don't look good, but (in my humble opinion) none of them look quite as good as these.

Thanks for the information on tyres Neil. I'll have a look at them. As far as wheels go I am still looking. I thought I had a set of refurbished MMV2's in the bag. They were advertised with economy tyres on them but the guy agreed a deal with no tyres. The following morning he told me it was first come first served because someone wanted them with the tyres. He wanted instant payment without siight of the wheels so it is back to the drawing board. I like the look of the 108s too but am stlll leaning towards the MV2s if I can find the a really good set at a sensible price.

Depends what you're using the car for. Mines a daily driver and I'd happily wear the runflats down then replace with something better. If you're a weekend hooner then you'd probably want to avoid them.

Thanks for the tip-off. They do look good. Just have a few reservations about the runflats. I am looking at some fully refurbished MV2s for £400 but then I will have to buy tyres. I'll have to make my mind up quickly or these will go.

Got to admit the 108s look good on your car. Somehow I get the feeling you are encouraging me to make a bid for the lovely mint 108s which have been advertised in the for sale forum today. Mind you by now I might be too late.
 
I was tempted as mine need a refurb. There's no getting away from the fact they are more prone to paint degradation but it doesn't happen that fast so a nice clean set will be fine for quite a few years.
 
MV's came as an option for the Zed as well. The facelift? I think?

That being said you do get a lot of e46 rocking them, while I don't think I've seen a single one with 108's
(and I'm talking about in the flesh, before some smart arse posts a link of a e46 with 108's! Lol)
