Best way to integrate iPhone into the Z4?

It should be fine for a dash cam - it's just 12V at the end of the day which is switched on/off with the ignition. Do you have a voltmeter to confirm if power is getting to your dashcam or not?

I also have a dash cam installed and took the feed from the courtesy light... see here https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=73905&hilit=dash
I have it all wired in and fed down like you showed but the fuse didn’t seem to work with the ignition power on/off the cam.
Might try the standard bmw radio fuse?. That surely will work as does go off when the ignition and key is out.

Where are you connecting the 0v / earth to? If you are using the screw as in my post you have to make sure you either use a new bare screw or file the back of the head to take the coating off.

I was using a new screw as couldn’t get the coating off the original one.
Fingers crossed.
I’ll let you know how the radio fuse goes and thanks again for a great write up on it.

Great write up!

I tried this at the weekend. Couldn't get the screw to earth after I removed the coating and tried a new screw as well. Works when earthed to something else in the engine bay.

Is there anything else in around the glovebox to use without me stripping down further to check?

Somebody else also mentioned that the supporting metal bar that the screw goes into didn't seem to be earthed. A bit strange as I buzzed it directly with a DVM from the bar to chassis and I was getting <0.1 ohms.

I fitted a pioneer 7" touch screen DVD unit after my Grom unit failed after 2 years of service. This also gives me the Bluetooth connection for hands free calls and music streaming. It works with my iPhone, USB memory card, DVDs full of MP3 files and Spotify. Also the iPhone can download a pioneer app called app radio that puts yor satnav and other info on the screen.

Do you mind me asking how much that unit cost?

I bought it on Amazon it was £355 and I split the payments over 5 months 0% interest.

Okay will have another go. Strange how it worked for you fine and i have nothing. God knows where else i can use for an earth without stripping down more trims...

Thanks for the help

Sorted this now. Although the screw on show didn't earth, if you remove the glove-box dash casing (5 screws) there are a further couple of screws behind that panel that do indeed earth successfully.

Not fully operational and bluetooth streaming friendly.

There should be one grounding point with a comb connector next to the foot well speaker. https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e85-z4-3.0i-roa/FE3bivp7
