My favourites (being a motorsport marshal & driver) are:
1. Oulton Park (International) - got everything, ups & downs, slow corners, fast corners, VERY fast corners, banked corners
2. Anglesey (Coastal) - very wide track, newest tarmac in the country, some VERY fast kinks and the lovely 'Corkscrew'
3. Donington (National) - easier on the brakes then the International circuit
4. Castle Combe - fast, with some chicanes that spoil it now
5. Cadwell Park - tight & twisty then opens out
6. Croft
7. Bedford Autodrome - fast but featureless (i.e. no elevation changes, wide-open, lots of run-off, not much to use as reference points)
8. Silverstone - can be boring as it's a bit flat, and you need POWER for some of the straights, they've changed the layouts this year so will have to try them
Not Done
A. Brands Hatch - keep meaning to do it, but it's a long way away when I've got Oulton on my doorstep
B. Knockhill
C. Thruxton
D. Snetterton
E. Aintree - very few trackdays, all organised by the circuit themselves, uses part of the old GP circuit
F. Three Sisters - seems too small for anything other than karts or bikes
Free camping too if you want to go the night before and have a few drinks, good chippy in Rhosneigr and curry house in Holyhead.
It's only 100 miles (90 minutes) from me in Liverpool, but it'll take a bit longer for you from Warwickshire I'd guess - but I assume you could have fun on the way over by going cross-country through Wales.
I've done this route in the past from a friend's house in Birmingham.
The weather can get 'interesting' at Anglesey, and I've been there in everything from 30ºC to -5ºC, and have even had races called off due to snow in March. The most common weather phenomenon you'll have is wind, followed closely by rain, but sometimes you'll just get cold and sunny which will burn quite quickly as you don't feel hot.
That's almost the route we took early one morning when going up to the "Evo Triangle" meet we did at the end of the Summer iirc.. bloody brill and the one meet I'm dying to recreate in the Spring.
Camping would be fun I guess if it was warmish, good drive the afternoon before, dinner & drinks then a trackday nice and early.
curborough sprint track is awesome on three lappers, but very technical, hard on the brakes and no run offs!! wimps need not apply!!! Sndy im soooo guna book you on on my next members sprint day, im hoping to do this for the next track day at the end of march, i NO youll be up for it!!! i owe you and this is my way of payback!!
of em all, Brands, indy circuit, fantastic, done it in my mk1 mx-5, its great for handling with the camber change and a couple of corners take a lot to get right, brilliant track
