Best solution for adding power?

Hey guys,

I know there are a bunch of threads on here about turbos and superchargers and all that jazz, but I wanted to hear everyones opinion, what is the best solution for adding power, and giving some extra oomph to a Z4? I'm thinking best value as well, so whats gonna add power and not completely break the bank. Thanks!

Sell up and buy an ///M. Unless you have an early Z4 it will be the most cost effective way of doing so.

why? whats special about an early Z4?

Early zeds have the M54 straight six engine, which takes a supercharger better than the later N52 engines.

For cost effectiveness, the answer really is to get an M. An ESS super charger will set you back around £5k and deliver something around 50bhp more at 7psi (I can't remember the exact figures).

The N52 engine is a magnesium block and has more delicate internals. Supercharging could cause reliability issues.

Some higher mileage M roadsters are going for £11k these days. Compare that to £5k for an ESS, and remember that the M already has upgraded brakes and limited slip diff as standard. Also with the ESS you'll still be short of M power, and you'll make your existing car nearly impossible to sell.

Just my tuppence of course :driving:

My bad, the S54 ///M engine 3.2 341 bhp is a beast to boost

338 bhp

ESS is about to release a supercharger for the N52. $5000 USD and it comes with a tune. With prices of M roadsters coming down, you probably are better off just getting an M.
