Can anyone recommend tyres for my z4 which aren't stupidly expensive. I currently have Falken FK452. Should i change or stick with the same when i replace them?

Hi
I changed to these from runflats a year ago and have done 11k miles
they have been great even in all this snow we've been having, also did 3800 miles to Croatia and back through the Alps and doing 130mph on the auto bahns and round the Nurburg ring,
I wouldnt buy any thing else
Unless i won the lottery

I'd stick with the 452's personally.

You might want to consider Toyo proxy t1r's as well. They're a little softer (wear quicker) but they are a great performer as well.

Depends what you mean by 'stupidly expensive'.

I consider the Pilot PS2 and Pilot SuperSport to be the best tyres you can get (which one depends on your size requirements) - but at about £200 a corner you might consider these a rip-off. However they seem to last longer than some of the cheaper options, so you end up paying the same or less per mile that with some of the cheaper options.

I'm getting about 20k miles out of a rear set on the ///M, and 30k+ out of the fronts. That is mostly motorway/dual-carriageway driving, but it also includes 2 x 3-4 day 'Ring trips a year.

I'd go with the falken's, t1r's are great but they do wear fast and the wet performance can be a little scary.

did I mention the Vredesteins have the best tread patern IMHO

Have to agree. Bought my set of 4 a month ago from Tyremen for £508 fitted.

That sounds like an awesome deal, where did you get these? The reviews i've read about them are very good.

I got them from www.tyremen.co.uk - although I actually purchased over the phone. You pay them for the tyres and fitting, they then send the tyres to a fitter local to you and they also arrange a fitting date. The £508 was for 2 x 225/40ZR18's and 2 x 255/35ZR18's. - the price includes £60 fitting charge, so if you know someone who will do it for less, you could just buy the tyres and get them sent direct to you.

I've just been and checked what tread i have left - 5mm on rear and 6mm on front so they are wearing pretty well for 11000 miles wouldnt you say?

Had Vreds on my 3.0si and they were fantastic i would highly recommend them.

had falkans on my 123d coupe before that and definately rate the Vreds over the falkens (albeit differant car)

Will also be replacing the tyres on the 35is with Vreds when they are due a change, however with the car only having done 8.5k and having new rears (due to punchures) at 6.6k its going to be a long time till i change them!

especially as the car only does about 4k a year!!!

Tried many of the makes suggested on here... and concluded spending the extra on Michelins are worth every penny because after 16k:

- Have worn really well considering the heavy abuse they've been through
- With 1.8-2mm left on the rears before I replaced them, in wet weather still gave as much grip
- wore evenly
- dry weather, as you'd expect.... excellent
- fronts after 16k still have 5mm on them
- low on noise

It's just sourcing them at a sensible price

Landed on Vreds recently by chance but rate them over any other mid priced tyre ive ever had (Falken/hankook were good but not IMO as good)
can't really comment on wear rate as mine is a weekender but grip in wet or dry is faultless + they are quiet & ride well
i doubt you would be disappointed

I put Vreds on my MR, to replace the original Conties, prefer the Vreds. Stable, great grip, quite.

One word. Kuhmo's.
Loads of people on her love them. Including me.
I doubt you'll be disappointed.

One of the reasons I went with Hankooks over the new 453 was that they have a directional tread pattern rather than asymmetric so with the zed's propensity to eat the inners of the tyres I could get them moved between rear wheels and get some extra life out of them. I figured £30 to get them moved was better than binning tyres too early

Then I sold the car :headbang:
