Best option for iPhone and Spotify

Hi all, I have a 2003 3.0l with nav and Bluetooth and I want to play music from my iPhone including spotify.

This was easy in my RX8 I just bought an Xcarlink which worked really well.

They do make one for the Z4 (seems cheaper than the more common ones used on here too) and I have seen others like the dice media bridge etc but none seem to be compatible with the DSP systems, because I already have Bluetooth etc would it just be better to fit the BMW ashtray aux?

I don't mind loosing my cd changer because it's about as much good as a chocolate fire guard but it would seem the better systems with actual control of the music are a pain in the ass with DSP, as I don't need to add Bluetooth and I am not worried about charging is it worth it over a simple aux in?

I'm guessing the bmw retrofit one is better than the cheapy eBay ones though because you don't loose use of the auto changer?

What would I gain from the intravee though and is it worth it?

It will cost in total £360.15 for everything because of needing the DSP adaptor and iPhone 5 adaptor.

So apart from displaying track text and being able to change tracks are there any real benefits over a simple aux port?

I too am in the same situation, although intravee seems to be a great bit of kit i cant really justify the cost. I think I'm just going to go with the bmw aux input and continue to use my usb charge cable. Just not looking forward to trying to remove the airvents to get the radio out!

Ok well I fitted the BMW aux this morning, really happy to be honest, had to remove a cable from my head unit to fit it which I assumed was my CD changer, turns out it wasn't and nothing has stopped working so very confused as to what the cable I had to remove actually did.

The air vents were a bit of a pig at first but I found using a butter knife to push the clips down then wiggling the bottom of the vents around worked for me because as I depressed the clips the bottom of the vents moved out slightly anyway, just be firm with it and it will come out.

Now I just have to decide whether or not to put it above the ashtray like normal or run it into the console between the seats so that I can hide the phone and cables, probably will do that.

I would say if you are happy with no integrated charging then aux is the way to go especially if you have DSP.

Check your nav voice works (if you have Nav) as I think the existing cables routed the nav sounds. You can modify the pplug to accept all of the pins at the same time as they all use different pins on the same plug.

Yeah was doing some reading about that but thanks for the info.

The only thing I would say is that the aux cable sounds a bit flat so I have had to make a modified DSP mode for it compared to CD and Radio (although I have 2 different ones for these too) but otherwise ok.

If anyone's interested in getting an Intravee I got this message from Toysinyourcar this morning: "We should have 200 arriving at the beginning of next week...." (They have been out of stock for some time)

I bought an Intravee and have the DSP system, I got it about a year or so ago but only fitted it recently. I am probably missing the finer points of it but to be honest I think I would have prefered the Aux cable. For example if I want to browse the ipod it is very clunky in doing that - you can only see 1 or 2 songs/albums/ etc. I think it would be much easier to have an ipod in my hand to select what I want.
I may have not got used to it yet but overall, other than it being well integrated into the nav system, I'm not hugely impressed. Luckily I only paid about £135 for the whole kit including the modified KC420i.

Just watched a youtube video on searching the ipod - I was not up to date on it's abilities!!! Will report back.

Mate I was in the same position and I decided to purchase and retro fit the Xomax xm-dtsb914 monitor with an e85 fascia and it was easy enough to install.

I then bought a Brodit e85 proclip which fits perfectly in the car and looks really well too and then just through bluetooth, the phone connects easily to the Xomax and also integrates your calls too, so you can dial numbers and answer calls, switch music on Spotify etc all from the monitor.

Hope this helps

Personally I don't like the non oem look and already have oem sat nav so replacing it wouldn't have been an option.

I'm happy enough with the aux in and don't really need more than that, I have managed to sort out the rubbish sound using the DSP.

I use one of these:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-Car-Audio-Connect-AUX-Bluetooth-Black/dp/B004FNYQZ8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1408617851&sr=8-2&keywords=car+audio+connect

Got the button bit stuck next to the radio - you could stick it somewhere out of site if you prefer. Cables all go through cracks etc - so it looks alright IMO.

I have it hard wired in behind the stereo to a switched live (can't remember which I used - it's been in there a few years), and then into the head unit via the AUX in.

Being bluetooth it's nice and generic - lasted through a few phone upgrades.
