Best Mod chips?

You get more BHP increase with hopes and dreams

Seriously though work well on turbo'ed cars.

The jb boxes work well, with dyno proven gains, "twin turbo" on here runs 311bhp from his 2litre using one of these :driving:

Get a remap, not a box.

Box appeals as it's removable but it's a fudge, it fools the ecu and it's safeguards. A remap works with the car properly.

It's a common misconception that tuning boxes will not invalidate the warranty. On more recent vehicles BMW has the car store all sorts of data about the operation of the vehicle, no doubt engine load is in there somewhere. This data is referred to as "FASTA" in the BMW world. This data is automatically passed from the car to the BMW corporate network every time it's plugged in at a dealer.

If you blow your engine using a box or a remap then there's a high probability that a warranty replacement will be refused.
Some units offer functionality to reset engine fault codes to prevent detection, but I believe this does not clear the FASTA data.

I'm not sure how you go about clearing this data. I've played with ISTA quite a bit and not seen any reference to clearing it. Reprogramming the DME may well clear it, which is the process people go through with things like MHD and BBFlash.

I have had both remaps and tuning boxes fitted to previous bmw's and have never had any warranty work refused although none were regarding engine problems but have never had any engine faults due to tuning either

Not really a shocker then :P

Things are a little different now. I think the FASTA data collection is quite a recent addition.

It was more to show the point I hadn't had an engine problem with either a remap or a tuning box

I agree with a most points raised.

There is a chance that a JB4 or Racechips will be found - but depends on the Stealers. I have taken my car to the Local stealers and had no issues - but with minor warranty work.

However if something major happens may be a different story.

If your car is not under warranty then a Remap is best solution, if you want a plug and play - and only go to stage 1 then Race Chips as they do provide warranty on the engine.

I went for a JB4 - as it was the only solution available and had it for nearly 3 years - and running Stage 2.
