Best M alignment set-up ?

I'm having a Hunter alignment done on Saturday morning, and had assumed I'd just be asking for the standard Z4M set-up. However I've seen some recent references to having the M3 CSL settings on our cars... So, which should I go for ? Why would the CSL settings be better, and are there any downsides, i.e. different tyre wear, harsher ride, change in handling characteristics ?

Oh yeah, the car currently has stock springs / suspension, and is on standard 18" 224s.

talking to exdos the CSL set-up isn't ideal for our Z4Ms.

Depends what you want.

I was after more direct turn in.

I spoke to Exdos and went armed with requirements, but ML advised something slightly less aggressive, but certainly more direct and purposeful than standard. I went with:

Front:
Camber - -1.5deg
Toe-in - 0.10 (ea)

Rear:
Camber - -1.0deg
Toe-in - 0.10 (ea)

The first two threads below follow my dillema, the third being Jamiez decision. We both followed Exdos advice for what we wanted:

had mine done when i had the pss's , just noticed i have ended up with 0deg 07 toe in each side at the front but 0deg 17 toe in at the back when i wanted a much more neutral set up , shouls i go back and reduce the toe on the rear ? what difference would i feel ? btw i had pulled pins but have got -1 deg 19 camber at front and-1deg 49 camber at the rear :? any suggestions where to go from here , still feel i want it a bit more lively.

Had mine done a few weeks ago.

Heres the alignment on my stock Z4MC:

Front
Camber: -1,30
Total toe: 0,14

Rear
Camber: -1,90
Total toe: 0,38

Features with ^:
-Straight as an arrow at high speed.
-Super turn-in! It's almost like my old alfa :). Very neutral balanced (over- vs understeer).
-Moderate tire wear rear (may caused by too much DSC off)

I've gone with similar as StevenH72 but with as close to 0 toe front and rear. I love it. More tail-happy than before. Haven't actually tracked it with that setup to see if it's too tail-happy but for the occasional fast drive i'm satisfied with it. Don't think that i'm driving DSC off and ass out on every corner but say on a deserted wet-ish road........

Bing, how did you get on in the end? Sorry to bump the thread but I appear to be getting conflicting advice from the internet too...

Any input appreciated from all - Z4MR, stock suspension (recent wishbones, lollipops, topmounts, new tyres - hence needing alignment).

JAD, are you using your car for road only? If so then I think the CSL settings are fine, as I've gone further with mine and am not getting excessive tyre wear on the road.

mines really aggressive and with the sprint work i do the tyre wear is even, my Neg camber is like -2.6.... zero tow upfront and a tiny bit of toe rear.. i mean tiny... rear camber was around -1.5 car, bump and rebound set to roughly midway, really drives nicely on semi slicks, looking forward to trying a higher end tyre soon to see how much time i can pick up. Power wise I'm overwhelming them quite easily so hoping a new tyre will i give me the grip i need, turn in is nuts and understeer is literally non existent, i can nudge right upto the limit of from grip then fire out the corner with the rear tyres spinning just ahead of road speed.

Agree... had mine done and its near Steven's setup. Defo more tail happy than before, I almost had a DSC off moment coming round a roundabout a week after it was done, the turn in is more direct and aggressive and the back started to come round quickly. I have tracked my car before and after the geo and it is defo a more track focused win. I much prefer it and the tyre wear has mostly been even. I have eibachs. The stock geo, stock spring setup is pretty poor imo.

I have new Eibachs, new RTAB's with limiters, and set mine to:

Front:
Camber -1.75deg
Toe-in 1mm (...how many deg is that?)

Rear:
Camber -2deg
Toe-in 2mm

Seemed good at first, I then realized the rear end sometimes feel "floaty" accelerating out of a bend if its not completely smooth&flat.
Why is this?
I'd thought new RTAB's would mean the opposite.

Tried to up the tire pressure but to no avail.

I did not go with CSL set-up - I let them set it according to the Z4 M specification. Felt just fine to me, but it hadn't ever been done as far as I know, and I don't track my car at all. Needs done again actually as its been a long time since this post.

Bing , you've got a stock car, go with the stock alignment mate.

lol saw this after you'd already gone and had it done. Perfect choice mate.

Thanks folks, I'm going to go stock from seeing all the above. Appreciate the input as always!

Due to do it again soon - I'll have RTAB limiters fitted when I do, but that will be the only thing non-stock for a while I think.

Stock rocks
