It's cheap to buy, easy & cheap to maintain, good on fuel, handles well, cheap insurance, tail happy so lots of fun - especially when you compare it to a similarly priced Z4 - you'll get a dog of a Z4 for £5k, but a quite nice MX5 for that much.

@Hotride, I know where you're coming from but given that it outsells the ZEd by about a zillion to one......its also reasonably priced, ultra-reliable, long-lasting, friendly dealers, cheap spares...yadda yadda yadda....I spose I'd better go and buy one now

If it wasn't a roadster then I'd probably buy one - same goes for the S2000.

It'd have to be a Integra Type R instead for me.

Price-wise, the MX-5 is a "smarter" choice than a Z : its running-cost will be lower, you can get a much more recent car than a budget-equivalent Z4, with more options...
I think the Z4 is superior to the MX-5 in all aspects, except for the ratio "money to fun".

When I was bought my Z4 there was only 1K in it between a factroy ordered 2.0 MX5 with hard top any my 2.5si which was 6 months old pre registered with 71 miles on the clock, so on price the MX5 was expensive.

Just got rid of my Mk2 MX5. good fun, cheap sports car but lacking a bit of soul (and performance!) I'd take a 2 litre Z4 over an MX5 every time on looks and performance but the MX5 is going to be a cheaper proposition to run.

Still who buys a sports car cos it's cheap to run?

We had both at one time.A 1.8 MX5 Sport (model 2.5) with black leather,LSD,and 16" wheels. A cracking little car.BUT, as soon as I bought the Z,I stopped driving it.Nuff said.So we sold it 6 mths after the Z arrived.
