Best bean-to-cup machine

Cost per cup - shopping around I can buy a 16 pack of my favourite Costa americano pods for £3, that works out at 18p per cup. I drink one cup a day.

Angie4m should be along soon to tell you what's what regarding bean to cup coffee

At that moment I was getting rather wet in a field in Silverstone  I'd of quite happily taken ANY kind of coffee machine at that moment, for ease.

I did have my Aeropress with me and some ground coffee but waiting for a kettle to boil on a gas stove takes a while :(

To be honest all machines have a place and as long as your happy with the price and the coffee it makes then it's all good. Sometimes it's hard to justify paying mega monies on certain bean to cup machines when you can get a similar performing machines for a lot less.

Glad to hear that both yourself and Tim are enjoying your Tassimos

Thanks Angie, as you suggest, its 'horses for courses' I guess. Mr's Marlon doesn't drink coffee but if she did she's on your side and would invest in a 'proper' bean to cup machine, whereas I'm with your dad and like the simplicity of the pods

The proper bean to cup machines do produce a nice cup of coffee and we love our De Longhi - it's got a push on milk tank/ frother so cappuccino at the press of a button.
Bean to Cup machines do have their downsides tho, they require de-scaling and a filter change quite often - we live in a very "soft" water area and the warning light comes on all too often. A hard water area must be a nightmare because the warning light comes on at the wrong time every time and it does not let you cheat !

They only produce one cup at a time.

An Espresso is plenty hot enough but I never think a cappuccino is quite hot enough, even if the cups have been on the warming plate!
Having said that, I would definitely have another machine.

I use the soft water supply now for the coffee machines, it does not taste different to me. No more descaling :)

Although our supplied water is very soft, the message still shows - no sign of fur in any other appliance - the machine is set to the lowest setting and I use filtered water from the fridge system .

Wow, that must be sensitive then. Wonder what it measures.

Having said that, the dishwasher is showing the "salt" light now even though I am feeding that softened water.

Thanks Angie the Tassimo Bosch is going great after a week of use :) you do have to descale it by the looks of it however there's a warning light to tell you when it requires it. I'm using filtered water as our water is quite hard. The kettle scales up in next to no time. In fact I used one of those descaler boil bags yesterday which do a great job but now the kettles leaking from the water level window :headbang: New kettle tomorrow me thinks.

Does it need de scale fluid in the machine ?

I've no idea Ronk I don't think so, I haven't read the manual as I wanted a coffee before I did

Tim.

You'll have that little yellow disc and yes usually to be used in conjunction with a de scaling product.

I've only had to de-scale my bean to cup once in a whole 4 years and my Dad only had to de-scale his Tassimo recently after just over 2 years of use. He didn't realise it had to be de scaled until it started flashing at him. It was a bit of a mission to recall where he had put the yellow disc :headbang: but eventually got it done and all sorted
