Summer days, sunshine and top down, what is the best 10 miles of road to drive the Zed to it's full potential? Here is my contribution...
A686 Melmerby to Alston in Cumbria. The first mile takes you to the bottom of Hartside pass which climbs to 2000ft along a very steep single carraigeway road with hairpin bends blind crests and adverse cambers galore. Worth stopping at the Hartside Inn car park at the summit to look back at possibly one of the best views in the lake district. I guarantee many will drive back down just to do that section again. I have! The next 5 miles takes you across open moors with narrow undulating roads and sweeping bends. The views are pretty terrific if you dare take your eyes off the road. PS. Be very aware of sheep, they can seriously damage the paintwork if you hit one and they are everywhere. 8)
