Summer days, sunshine and top down, what is the best 10 miles of road to drive the Zed to it's full potential? Here is my contribution...
A686 Melmerby to Alston in Cumbria. The first mile takes you to the bottom of Hartside pass which climbs to 2000ft along a very steep single carraigeway road with hairpin bends blind crests and adverse cambers galore. Worth stopping at the Hartside Inn car park at the summit to look back at possibly one of the best views in the lake district. I guarantee many will drive back down just to do that section again. I have! The next 5 miles takes you across open moors with narrow undulating roads and sweeping bends. The views are pretty terrific if you dare take your eyes off the road. PS. Be very aware of sheep, they can seriously damage the paintwork if you hit one and they are everywhere. 8) :D

Evo triangle near Wrexham not 10 miles but proper driving when plods not there

Hawes to Tan Hill then any of the roads from Tan Hill.
Ribbledale Valley near Settle

I like the Snake Pass, through Strines and return down the Woodhead pass..

More than 10 miles but its a nice hours driving..

The road to Bala, North Wales... just climbs & climbs & climbs around beautiful scenery

It's a fantastic piece of road which I've travelled many times but from the opposite direction. I would add the A696 from Alston to Middleton in Teesdale to your list

When the road is clear, the road between Cirencester and Tetbury has lots of nice twisties and a couple of good straights for overtaking. Tree lined and a railway tunnel for a bit of exhaust noise

Not quite 10 miles, but the perfect local hooning road

Most of the roads around Snowdonia are really good, quiet & sheep not an issue .roads well surfaced as well .A lot better than the Lake District generally .

Near the sub base at Faslane. A82... I think top gear did a race there.

I agree with that choice. Drove that road and on up to Oban a few years ago although not in a Zed but as part of an advanced driving course in a Volvo T5R. Fabulous drive would love to do it in the Zed and recommend it to anyone in the area.

In Carlisle week after next and although that route is not exactly a short cut back to Sunderland sounds like an opportunity to enjoy if the weather is good. Thanks for the tip  :D
