Bertie the E86 Coupe update

Well its been nearly two weeks and i have settled in with my stunning Montegro blue E86 coupe, i bought the car off True-blue and its just what i was after spec wise wise :)

So i was going to leave it alone but my OCD has kicked in and a few little tidy up bits has turned into quite a few bits.

I have ordered most things and waiting on delivery so will update as they are done and add pics. If there is anything else you think i should do as other things are done please feel free to let me know .. or any advice or tips will be welcomed :)

Interior

New BMW matts
ZHP leather gear knob
Refurb Royal steering wheel in alcantara with M sport stitching (will spray control covers while its off)
Possible carbon wrap of aluminium parts ? Still unsure ?
Installed my blackview 750s dashcam front and rear
After a slow start had battery tested and it was on its way out so fitted new Bosch S5 AGM.

Outside

Run flats off and goodyear eagle F1 acemetric 5 tyres fitted all round (what a transformation)
New OE wheel badges to finish off as the wheels have been reconditioned
New OE bonnet and boot badges
Bimmec 15 and 12 mm spacers
Salbeck gloss black grilles
New chrome exhaust tips (amazon)

Suspension refresh

All OEM BMW top mounts, gaskets, bolts and rear bump stops
Bilstein B12 pro kit

Brakes

Rear discs, pads and lines recently done at BMW so ok

Front
Wezmoto braided lines
Brembo slotted performance discs
Brembo performance pads
All brand new calipers painted silver with high temp
ATE 200 brake fluid flush

Once thats all done its booked in with my local valeter ...G3valeting for a ceramic coat as true-blue has done such a good job with the paintwork it would be a shame not to take advantage of the limited prep work needed :)

Also removed one small foam from sound generator pipe .. dont think the other will come out yet lol

And I need to get another key from BMW unless theres a better option ?

Hope im just making a great car even better :)
 
I'd be interested to see what happens with your carbon wrap. Seems to get a bad 'wrap' on here but i like it :)

Will give it a go, it may or may not look good but it will peel off if it looks rubbish :)

Had the alcantara and carbon interior on my M140 shadow Edition and it transformed the interior, but not sure the wrap will have the same effect. As that was a proper BMW job.
 
Wow that is quite a list, but some great improvements. :thumbsup:

My car only came with 1 key which I wasn't happy about, so I got a flip-style key cut and coded by a forum member in Cheshire for £80. He even "uncoded" some of the missing ones! This was 3 years ago before he had premises though, so cost may be a bit higher now. Do a search for The Zed Shed in Cheshire if you are in that area - it's run by forum member ducklakeview, but I think he's much more active on FaceBook these days than on here.

Otherwise there is forum member "IAmOrion" in Cambridgeshire who will code one for some beer tokens if you get it cut.

Failing that I've also read good things about "bmkeys" in East London.

All much cheaper options than BMW! :thumbsup:

I did mine a couple of years back and it tottally transformed the look and feel of the interior. We'll worth doing, if you can be arsed with the removal of the bits - it's a right faff!! Loads on here about how to do it though.

So after getting all the bits and spending a lot more than I planned its all done.

Suspension and brakes all done, also found broken rear drop link (snapped in half) so replaced that. 4 wheel alignment done.

Liquid elements eco ceramic coating applied.

Interior stripped and wrapped in matt grey carbon 3M and i love the change, although i know others may not ...

Got the 224 z4m alloys back from powdercoaters, need to get tyres swapped over next week hope they all fit ok ... wandering if front will need spacer or not ? Any help there welcomed currently 12 front 15 rear, I know the back will not need any.

Royal steering wheel fitted and quality as brilliant as ever :)

Just need to sort headlight refurb but will do that when bumper comes off to sort headlight washer leak, currently disconected hose and removed fuse 40.

Looks great - but would look even better if they weren't blurred out and watermarked by Photobucket... Easier just to upload them direct to the website, as no-one needs a Photobucket account to see them :thumbsup:

Genuinely had no idea regarding the rear drop link, sorry about that, if I’d known I’d have said or it would have been sorted.

I don’t get the headlight washer leaking again? When I collected the car it was fine and didn’t leak at all. Then noticed a puddle on the garage floor. I thought it might have been because the car was now garaged, as was on the street for a while previously, and maybe something had dried out somewhere.

Read up about it on here and activated the washers several times, then it stopped leaking again and wasn’t leaking at all when you collected it.... maybe intermittent leaking is an issue :?

I bet it’s riding much nicer with 0 mile Bilsteins and non runflats :thumbsup:

Absolutely no reason to justify any of it to me mate, its an old car ! you were completely honest and up front with me :)

Drop link was clean broken in half and it was a fresh break, i have some good speed bumps at work that could be the culprit and it probably wont be the last time one goes :) they are cheap but a ball ache to change.

The washer leak didnt happen again for 2 weeks then the bottle emptied twice in 2 days .. again not your fault and i suspected if it just stopped the first time it wouldnt be the end of it lol.

The car is fantastic, engine is smooth gearbox spot on etc etc..

The nav system kept freezing as well, turned out to be the disc, replaced it all good again, that didnt happen fof 2 weeks .. and the battery was my choice coming up to winter and a few slow starts.

Its so much better on the bilstiens but getting rid of the runflats has made a huge difference.

On the flip side the valeter i use said you did an excellent job for him, even gave me a discount as he hardly had to do any prep before the ceramic went on :) so thanks for that it looks great .. will put some pics on but hasnt stopped raining since he did it ...

Collected my E85 yesterday, so have had the chance to have a little play now. Have to agree that the B12 Pro kit is substantially better than than standard suspension in every respect.

I was expecting it be more crashy / harsh and was worried it may drop it to far but it is supple and smooth whilst giving more feedback and grip, only wish it was warmer to really test it out but that time will come eventually.

Glad you got the new car and like it :)
