Bent rim on a CPO car. Advice needed!

After having my z4 for about a year, I went to get new tires today (non-rft by the way). They told me at discount tire that I had 2 bent rims. The rims had been heavily balanced to compensate for the bends. This is the way the vehicle was when I purchased it from the dealer so it's obvious that they knew about the rim flaws. Discount tire said these rims were only able to be used in the rear and put them there (I think that's were they were anyway. Should the dealer that sold me the CPO car have told me about this? How far should I go to argue that I got a product that wasn't good enough quality for CPO?

You've owned the car far to long to prove that the vehicle was like this before you owned it. As long as the tires are not losing air you should be fine. Just have them properly balanced and be on your way. If it's really bothering you, then go to a wheel repair shop to take care of it.

It wasn't a bent rim that I needed balanced. It was a bent rim that was already balanced by the dealer. So it came balanced for the bends. Discount tire asked me if I knew that BMW did this and wanted to know if I wanted them to do the same thing. Plus discount tire gave me the bmw dealer weights so I have some proof. Doesn't that prove that the dealer knew about it when they sold it? I just feel like I should have been informed or had better quality rims on the car...particularly since it was CPO.

Non not really. All it would mean is that "you" or someone had it balanced by A dealer. Not their dealership. It really doesn't hurt to call and see if they'll fess up to it. But don't expect much. Bent rims are pretty common. So if you're not experiencing an handling issues. I would just let it go. I've had a hand full of bent rims on my car and I really didn't notice any difference to be honest.

Yeah sounds like you're out of luck. It's been too long enough since you bought the car to convince them that the wheels came that way. The OEM wheel weights don't really prove anything since they're easily accessible and attainable at any BMW dealer's parts counter.

The bent wheels can be repaired, but even after they get repaired, the structure integrity will likely have been compromised already. If you're going to replace them, they cost $275 each from Tischer BMW.

Or just get new aftermarket wheels.

Get a second opinion, I had a hack shop tell me the same regarding my Z4MC OEM wheels, then they tried to sell me some of their crap wheels.

Taken to a friends shop and they were mysteriously perfect again...

And after swapping my 3rd set of tires...they are still good.

Can't trust everybody....its how they set their parameters...

Also to note these new force balancing machines are great but can be very bad if used improperly....meaning the machine can do damage to your wheels and they could be just covering up their mistake.

hmmm...that's good to know IDEAS...I think I'll be fine as long as I'm not losing air. On that top, my air warning sensor went off about 20 miles into my new tires. Is this normal after a tire change? I'm thinking they're still finding their seal.
