"Beep" in 1st or Reverse

I installed a set of 4.10 differential gears in my 06 Z4 M (E86) and love the performance. However, now, I hear this "Beep" when starting off in 1st or Reverse gear and a message flashes on my dash displaying: "4 mph".

Has anyone experienced this or have any ideas what may be happening?

epbrown has changed his diff, might be worth a PM

4.10 sounds awesome, bet the performance is amazing :sweetheart:

The speed flashing up on screen sounds like your change of diff has somehow effected the speed sensor (quite reasonable).

- have you done the obvious, and checked that you don't have the speed warning limnit set to 4mph??

- i.e. on your computer (if you have prof nav, you can set the speed limit warning) - it is this that flashes up on screen when you exceed that speed.

- I always have mine set to 98mph (err no, 70). :D - then gives you a reminder to slow down.

Rgds.

I would also +1 on its the speed warning,

I also have 4.10's and I never had anything like that, I also installed them myself,
There are also no electrical sensors in the diff, Its all mechanical back there :D

Thanks Zed Five and Starscream!! Your comment reminded me that while I was waiting for the repair shop to open, I played with the OBC features and did set my speed limit to 4 mph!! Embarrassed but relieved!, thanks everyone for your ideas and comments.

BMW would probably have had the car in the workshop for half an hour and charged £80 fo that!

glad it's sorted.

Thats what this forum is all about - now for the massive amount of money you have saved in BMW labour to fix this why not £20 to the Forum Suport fund - just click the link at the top of the screen. AND yes I have.........!
