BEEP and temp displayed?

First winter with the Z. I got in the car last night and the engine was warm. I kept hearing a beep and realized that after the beep the temp was displayed +3º on the speedo/computer. It has never done this before. Is this normal?

First winter with mine and noticed it doing the same. A tad irritating.
Going to see if there's a code-out option in carly.....

Found this in the manual. All is cool.

Ice warning
If the outside temperature drops to approx. +3º, the computer automatically switches to the outside temperature dis- play.
In addition, a signal sounds and the display flashes for a brief period.

It only beeps when you first get in and turn it on - it's actually useful if it doesn't feel that cold but could be icy.

are you guys for real or what?

every bmw does this its a saftety warning to remind you its bloody cold and too take more caution. When the temps 3 degrees or below it will beep. It does it for like a sceond then goes off hardly annoying at all

Never owned a BMW before...Strange how it didn't occur to me...Good job I have a manual

Also occurs if you are driving and the temp drops, always makes me panic while I try to work out what is about to blow up.

Juat remember, the warning isnt an excuse to not put the roof down, just a reminder top put on your gloves

Every car I've ever owned has done this.

At least in newer cars you get a different type of beep for a warning, notice or error, whereas I hate the Z4 only has a single beep style.

Temp dropped to 3 once and I though my my engine had exploded

Should see my face when I've forgotten to disable my 'speed limit' beep/buzzer and it goes off as I'm approaching a fast/twitchy bit on the Ring :censored:

Using NCS expert it can be coded out. I did this along with the handbrake chime. There are others as well like the seatbelt chime IIRC.

Actually for me it is a reminder of why I bought an E86!

Global warming, my ar*e - it hasn't worked this week has it!

It also serves as a warning that the spot of road ahead that looks wet may actually be black ice ( we get that a LOT here in Canada as winter approaches). And if you are running summer tires, the rubber compound may become stiffer at low temperatures and not provide the same grip as you are accustomed to when driving in warmer weather.

So its not something to be ignored or made light of.

My E30 doesn't do this.
E46 and E86 both do. And yes, it also freaks me when it goes off whilst driving.

Yup it's there to warn of dropping external Temperature and possible frozen roads ahead. So best to take heed.

mine must be the worst sounding beep every its awful, first time it happens each year i`ll hear it n drop of the accelerator n look for faulty signs on dials lol

Stated a few times, but yes I do the same... *beep* ahh fack what now?! Oh just temperature? Lets accelerate back up to the speed limit then

No option in Carly to code this out sadly.
Just have to live with it I suppose.
Annoying though, happened a couple of ttimes while out driving yesterday and each time i was looking for a warning light for a split second. Grr
