After spending time constructing a greenhouse at Smartbear Towers i recently managed to get out for a (essential) trip on my motorbike, back roads to Glastonbury were a real joy.

I'm Jealous. That's a good looking bike.
Used to ride an old motoguzzi and a hardly after that.

Sorned mine. First time in 31 years that any of my bikes have not had tax on them and ready to use.
I dont see using the bike as essential as I have a car.

Surely it’s the journey that’s meant to be essential rather than the mode of transport?

Leave that to the forum scouser's ahy.

It’s a nice ride from yours to Glastonbury Rob, I’m quite envious!
I hope the trip was unavoidable otherwise you might face the wrath of the sanctimonious twats on here
Here’s hoping we get at least one bike trip in before winter returns

You are right its what you are going out for that may be essential but its a hell of a lot quicker and easier and safer to go anywhere by car than it is by bike.
And for me seeing as my bike is not going to turn a wheel for at least 3 months, possibly a year, I might as well save the tax money.

Ok, I am happy to be called a “sanctimonious twat”... thanks for that!

Going to say this once... if you want to bend/break the rules and want to go off on a drive in your car/bike, knock yourself out! Just do me a favour, keep it to yourself and don’t post about it on here. Many people have very good (some personal) reasons for wanting everyone to follow the rules/guidelines and posting your “two fingers” posts about how you are rebelling is just stirring things up.

No ones rebelling here Tim, maybe you’d like to tell us all how you’re helping others in these bad times?
Ann lost her uncle the day before yesterday so it’s not a great time for us at the moment.
I’ve been out many times that I’ve not posted about, my neighbour is recovering from cancer & been told not to leave her house, I’ve been getting her food and prescriptions.
I’ve also been going out in my duties as a parish councillor leaflet dropping in the village with my personal number for them, offering to help if needed.
I’ve also been out looking after the parish grounds. All for nothing Tim.
It’s galling when you know nothing about me yet seem to delight in knocking me.
Thanks for that

Well if that is the case then well done you.

However, knowing all the hoo-haa that has been going on throughout various other posts, in the current climate it would have been so easy to put a short, simple explanation in your first post and immediately cancel out any need for people to get the wrong end of the stick.
I agree you should not have to justify yourself to others, but everyone is so touchy at the moment that this would save all sorts of grief that need never have started.
For example, the phrase 'sanctimonious twats' may never have appeared.
Not preaching Rob, just saying that in the present circumstances we maybe all need to adjust our approach a little.
No offence intended.

I would have thought the inclusion of “essential journey” would have been enough, obviously not.

Just don't post it here. Be a quiet 'hero' like some others.
