MSV, BMW UK and BMW CC are holding another novice only track day evening session at Bedford Autodrome on 27th Aug '10. tjlazer and myself went to the previous one last week and had a great time, it was good to be able to use the cars to their full potential and find out what they're capable of :D
Bedford's the best circuit for a first track day as there's plenty of run off if you get it wrong. It's a bargain as well at only £49 instead of the usual £119! Tuition is available for £25, helmets can be hired for £10 and you can take an additional driver or passenger for £5.

There's more info on the MSV website HERE

It would be good to see some more Zeds there. Who's up for it? :driving:

Im keen and cant see any reason why i cant make it. Will know in the next week for sure, then hopefully i'll be booking up :)

You've got two M cars and never been to a track - shamefull :poke:

Bedford is as big as an airfield, you've 100% more chance of hitting something in tesco than there. Its not really worth getting insurance.

Im suprised people aren't clamering after this really, its the easiest, safest track ive been to and is as cheap as it gets.

At that price you could do just two laps just to get a feel for it, then see if you want to do any more trackdays.

I've had a good bit more than three track days  Sad to say, I no longer fit in the novice category. Already found that out with speed ventures back in the states, the novices pretty much kicked me out of their group  :driving: Told the instructors I definitly was too fast for em :D

ACK plus this is a Friday anyways

I'm tempted, but have only just put £500 worth of tyres on the rear. Will have to check funds and the front will be finished if I do a track day.

For £49, it is very cheap. But all 4 tyres on my Zed have only covered less than 2,000 miles. I don't want to go there and can't smoke the tyres. :D I went karting before and used helmet provided (not nice). So if I go there, I have to spend £200 for a new helmet too.

How do they know if you did more than 3 track days before? Do they have national database that stores drivers' details?

Ksher, its an hour or so of spirited driving, it wont do any harm to your tyres at all. In fact if you spin at all you get black flagged, so smoking the tyres deliberatly round each corner is pretty much frowned upon.

And no, they'll have no idea how many track days you've done. Its just to put of the serious crowd that want to go full chat round every inch of the circuit.

Sorry for the delay in replying, I've been away with no internet access!

What time does the evening one run then ? I'd happily do Bedford again :driving:

Signing on starts at 15:30 before the briefing at 16:30. Track time starts at 17:30 with several laps behind a pace car to learn the track, then it's open pitlane so you can go on and off track whenever you like until 20:00.

I hired a helmet last time and it was fine, looked quite new and not smelly and horrible like ones I've used elsewhere

What do you know....I have Friday off. I wonder how keen of an eye they will have when it comes to my driving. :?

Screw it, I'm in. I'll put down one track day. I'm going to wait until tommorow to register to see if any buddies from work want to join or come out and ride.

So you are going to tell them you're novice (in fact you did more than 3 track days). It's so cheap that you can't really miss it.

They seem quite relaxed, at previous ones there were people that had done more than 3 track days and stripped out track cars on semi-slicks!

I really wanna go to this but am unsure whether I'm going to be able to make it as someone's coming to look at my Zed tomorrow with a view to buy it, so it depends if I've got the car or not :?

Lol, yeah, the cheapness is pretty much the deciding factor. Plus it will let me see roughly how things are run over here.

One question,

On renting helmets, if I have a passenger do I need to rent one for them or will they be able to do that at the track?

They can rent them on the day from the track no problem.

Looks like I'll be able to make it :D
