Beckenbauer the Z4

arrived yesterday, old one fell apart when unscrewed, new light wrapped and fitted :)
only thing i think is odd is not lighting up the entire bar...

Still tempted to plastiwrap the silver logos

Managed to get myself a leatherz armrest with a cupholder on the top for £25 on ebay :)

nice addition without the insane price tag/amount they cost new with shipping

Aye been keeping a lookout but only seen ones with the multifunction buttons @ crazy money.

if i did the retrim i'll have to use the exchange service, steering wheels further down the list after the new wheels tbh

Leatherz Armrest arrived today, gotta admit if i'd paid the $130+shipping for this rather than getting it used off ebay i'd be raging

really doesn't fit that well, i figured it'd be a snug fit that matched the width etc perfectly, so you couldn't tell it wasn't meant to be there, really does come across poorly imo (albeit i'm fussy)

Always a bummer when things don't measure up to expectations.

Whilst it won't make you feel any better, your posting has answered a mystery I had. I couldn't work out why I have bits of Velcro stuck on the bit behind the handbrake.

Now not sure whether to try to remove the Velcro or to get the armrest.

well it only cost me £28 used (which sums up how much i think of it really)

i'd def say there is no way it's worth the proper fee+shipping, if you can get one used for around what i paid, worth a punt.

That's a shame, I was looking forward to that working well than considering getting one myself!

Thanks for letting us know anyway :)

I don't suppose anyone else has ever heard of a arm rest that fits well?

Did you ever get around to plastidiping your z4 badge? It's on my list for when I finally get my car.

With regards to the arm rest, if you really don't like it and want to move it on for a profit, I'd be willing to take it off your hands.

I did yeah, back and the sides.

I didn't like the look of it in the end, maybe try it again sometime, and taking the access off from certain parts (centre of the 4, middle of the 0 on the 3.0) is a total ballache.

aye the arm rest is grim, the worst part is because (my own fault for buying this one cheap without thinking) the cup holder in the middle is totally pointless
#1 you could never have a cup there and use the gears, it's impossible.
#2 the hidden part which recedes into the rest storage takes up so much room i can't even store my wallet in there without it being slightly more raised than it's supposed to be.

Lads, going start looking at alloys to replace the absolutely decimated ones that game on my car in june.
prob buy them after easter when the shite weather disappears (well is a little less likely)

Can anyone tell me what size 19" wheels will fit with no rubbing, on what offset etc i have no clue what any of it means

19" what offset/tyre size would be great (never seems to be a definitive answer when i have a nosey through other threads)

235/35/19 8.5 ET40 front with a 5mm spacer
265/30/19 9.5 ET40 rear

Is what i /think/ matches that but not sure at all

old steering wheel has arrived, leaving it up to a local guy to get it retrimmed with m-stitching, perforated leather sides and alcantara top/bottom :D

Sound generator mod done
Serviced - oil/filters etc etc
DISA upgrade fitted
Cleaned inside/out

Mot tomorrow :D

new steering wheel should be ready to collect in couple of days too

bought a wheel from a breakers and left it up to a local guy Arek to get retrimmed, was quick no real complaints, only gripe was i asked for it to be a bit more padded than it is to make it more like the msport type. Might still send the one i've swapped off to royals and see which looks better.
Anyway old vs new with perforated leather sides and alcantara top/bottom
Just noticed the trim on the new wheel is matte silver and my old one is chrome, is that because the new wheel is off a facelift or something?

The matte silver looks much better anyway.

Not keen on the alcantara bits but the rest is nice. Like the perforated leather, much better than standard.

aye i'm not totally sold on it myself i thought he'd use the same shade as the perforated leather than that dark a black. it's not as notiable when you're in the car to be fair with the radio being black and other bits of trim/seats etc

Just discovered this thread....Really like it!

I'm thinking of getting another Z4 (in addition to my 3.0Si) myself to do something similar to as a bit of a 'project' for some fun. I just need to make some garage space (and get a bit of money!) and then find the 'right' car. It's got to be cheap to buy but mechanically sound....the rest I can deal with.

Would a 2.0L be hopelessly slow? Never seems to be much mention of them on here?

Think it all depends to what you currently drive/have driven
I went from a 2.0 Hyundai coupe(daily) and driving one of our 2.2td Honda cr-v's to this and the difference is night and day in terms of acceleration so i obviously notice it more, it has 100bhp more than the coupe pretty much so it was a fair jump.

i'd say if i was going the other direction, from a z4m> z4 3lt, or in this case a z4 3lt to a z4 2.0 it'd be a big difference, kinda like going back to the Hyundai, i think going to another type of 2lt that has a turbo or something to make up for it would be a different story.

Don't get me wrong the coupe wasn't a bad car to drive it just didn't have the power at certain times when you wanted it.

Dry yesterday and risked it being the same today, so give it a go over with renovo cleaner/revive/ultraproof
Cleaner yesterday
