Be careful what you buy!!

A classic example of a seller not knowing what they are doing.
Take a look at this screen for sale. Let's say your screen was playing up in some way and you decided to replace it. You take a look through ebay and find this one at a decent price.
Can you spot the problem?....

I have no knowledge of these at all but:
Bit of damage to the top cover
The wires in the back seem to have been hacked off flush?

You've hit the nail square on the head there!
Yes it's cheap, but practically useless. You could de-solder the old ones and swap them over, and you'd still have a cheap screen. But what tuna melt would do that? The wires are only a few more inches longer and whoever got to that point would have seen them, but no, the muppet has just gone full John Wick on them and taken them out!
It could be a bargain, you could even put an offer in, but that's saying that it actually works, and you'd only know that by altering it's received condition.
Still cheap though.

One like that has been on the market for over a year…I got one on great condition with all its bits of eBay for £200..

FWIW I bought a dash of those guys..utterly butchered ..

Well you must have some luck to have just joined and immediately found the relevant post as the title wouldn’t have led you to it. 😉

You can't do anything with it.
Send it back.

I'll caveat that and say, you can do something with it, if you solder on the replacement connectors, test it works, and buy all of the parts needed for an idrive retrofit, which is possible but prohibitively expensive and difficult, then code it all in.

Buy an android unit instead.

Well you now have a problem. As you don't have iDrive then this is useless to you, unless you are thinking of doing a retrofit of the OE system.
I'd say you've got a couple of choices......
1) Contact the seller and ask for a refund on the point that it's not working/damaged. If this fails then contact eBay and proceed with a complaint.
2) Keep it and attach some wires to make it a useable item. This will require some disassembly and soldering, but I can help you locate the parts that you need. Once the wires are attached and the unit tested you could sell it on, for a profit :)

EDIT* Also as you don't have iDrive, and as mentioned above, you could fit an Android touchscreen to give you the infotainment options you want.
