Bcables question

I’ve installed everything from the bcables DVD’s except the tis workshop manual but have run in to a snag with running the dcan exe. When I run it for the comport it has “none” listed with no option to select “com1”. Am I missing something somewhere or have an issue with the downloads that I missed somewhere that someone might know of? There’s no change with the cable unplugged or plugged in.

You on Windows 10?
You are using a USB port not a com port so it has to be assigned in windows.
I had the same problem, although I was installing Mikes BMW Tools, which is basically the same software.

https://www.trishtech.com/2015/01/change-com-port-in-windows/ worked for me. Or whatever the equivalent is for the version of windows you are using.

Windows 7 and yep port had to be configured thanks  I found that out by sitting my 2 year old on my lap then he went and started pushing buttons to help me figure it out lol. Now that I’ve got it up I’m getting an error message in DIS saying diagnostic bus error: connection between operating unit and diagnostic head is impaired error number 200.166. It’s not auto finding the car I have to go through the selections manually so I’m not sure if the connection from the lap top is making it to the obd or not now

Sorry, can't help with that, I haven't installed it. I did look but it looks like a right PITA so didn't bother.
If you want to read error codes you can use INPA.

I spent hours trying to get bcables software working before giving up. I found "Mike's easy BMW tools' which installed and worked first time!

http://www.endtuning.com/bmwcodes.html#DDE6 Useful website listing error codes.

 thanks guys for the input. I had done some more searching last night and saw a huge amount on different forums coming up with the same system error code with bcables trying to run dis. There’s a load of variables to run through and check that people seem to have run in to so might give it another go later in the week. The main code reader I’ve been using is what ess supplies in their software as well as a peake scanner. My desire of why I went and got the bcable is to delete me out of suspected transport mode and it seems a lot of us out getting ourselves into that lately :headbang:

Unfortunately as far as I'm aware (unless anyone knows different) you do need DIS to get out of transport mode.
I found these instructions once (if) you get DIS working. https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=535664&d=1445807632

You have got further than me, I purchased BCables DVD and cables last week, went to install it and the DVD on my laptop won't read the disks (it won't even copy the files onto a local folder, hangs up approx half way) will try a couple of other laptops later this week, but not too impressed that so many people have had problems.

I wouldn't bother with the software that comes with bcables, use Mikes Easy BMW Tools, it's a much easier install.

I am a little suspicious of Mikes Easy BMW Tools for a couple of reasons: I don't understand why someone would join a forum to offer software and make only one post; Most of the feedback saying how great it is have had only 2, 3, or 4 posts.
