BBK rear brakes

Hi Gents,
Newbie here. Having the itch now to upgrade my 28i. Been reseacrching on what guys out there have done.
So far for fronts I've decided on going with 4 pot Brembo or M performance with 355mm rotors. As for the rears yes
seems like a pita with big dollars simply because of the E brake. My question pls, has anyone install bigger rotors like 330
or 355 & still using the stock calipers ? The Japs seems to be using it this way for E89s but am unsure about the balance of
chassis under heavy braking into corners. The other option that I've read is go Zimmerman cross drilled replacement disc &
upgrade pads to EBC Yellow.

Many thanks in advance & would greatly appreciate your experience & thoughts.

Hello..I’m on my second attempt at this just at the moment.

I’m having a set of US spec 35is / Euro spec 35i or 35is rear calipers being refurbished to match my 17” wheel E90 series BBK I fitted to the front end..

I’m using the Zimmerman cross drilled discs with Textar pads..

I think that will be more than adequate as under heavy braking a lot of weight transfer offloads the ability for the rear discs to do much work.

There is an issue with the DSC system that controls the brakes ..in theory it should coded in some way to adjust fir the BBK at the front and any other changes ... without repeated experimentation it’s not clear what changing any of the many parameters would do...

Hi Guys,
Thank you so kindly. When I think more about it my guts tells me to stick with stock rears but to upgrade to Zimmerman Cross Drilled
with either EBC Yellow or Green Suff. Fronts I thought about M peformance 4 pot with 355 rotors, what's your thought about my choice
for the fronts ? I've already budgeted 5 things that I want to upgrade my Z4 this year.
Brakes, Lowring Springs, 19 inch wheels &lastly DME mapping.

Thank you again Gents

IMHO your front end is overkilll...the 28i is a lot lighter on the front end than the 30i and 35i...weight transfer is less..it will probably lockup a lot easier and be counterproductive..

I have a smaller set up and it now locks up quite easily...a bigger solution probably be worse..

But cosmetically I’m sure it will look great..

Search Player 1 with his version of what you are asking for and PBondar BBK too..

PB brakes do a front and rear kit with a rear line lock so you can use 4pots, a matching kit from one supplier is an easy way to go if funds allow.

Hi Gents,
I was chatting with Pbondar over at my other thread. The more I research the more headaches I seem to discover with regards to upgrading of brakes. DSC coding !!!!!!!!!!! Here's a thread that I found : https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=764547. With modern technology manufacturers has added so much computing power to cars that it's scary. So for you guys running BBK do you encounter any issues.

Thks

I can help you set up a laptop to be able to code in the VO and then program DSC, let me know

Wow thank you so kindly Tintoverano. When I read the thread there was a remark about recoding even after a change to new battery, bloody scary.

Many thanks again

when you first hear such, probably scary - but not at all later on

for sure you do need stuff to make sure it all goes down well, but it is an already paved way by many

Why are you doing this? do you track drive the car? if not then just upgrade your current rotors to a quality slotted make oemmreplacement, DBA are very good.
No reason whatsoever to fit huge rotors and mess with your braking safety..

i'd agree with mcbutler... what are you trying to achieve with a BBK? first step to upgrading brake performance is fit decent pads (which EBC yellows are not), then fluid, then work on the cooling. if you've done all that and are still suffering from brake fade, or are still not happy with the braking performance, then maybe consider a BBK. but at this point you're normally quite far down the track car route.

If its just aesthetics you're after, then a set of MTEC drilled and grooved discs will look the part, for not much money. Though, they are more likely to crack when they get really hot than a decent plain OEM disc, so i wouldnt do any trackdays on them.

Hi Brillomaster / Mcbutler

Yes both of you are correct. Original thoughts was Zimmerman crossed drilled with upgraded pads for the rear.
Plan is to install BBK for the fronts then the thoughts appeared about getting proper balance hence been
researching & asking. Will head towards either JB4 or perhaps Celtic upgrade path.

Many thanks again Gents
