BBK fitting advice please

Hi, just after a little help hear from those who have already fitted an aftermarket brake kit to the car.

Between the odd rain shower and Easter family duties I am in the process of fitting a K-Sport kit to my Z4M. I'm starting at the left rear wheel as wanted to be sure the rear kit would fit ok before I went on to do the fronts. I have fitted the new Rotor and caliper fine.

The next stage to finish off the wheel was pop the pads in, replace the brake line then bleed etc, which raised a couple of questions....

1) Unboxing the pads I notice that none have a slot for the brake pad wear sensor (on the other rear wheel). Is this usual? Am I meant to just tie the sensor line out of the way?

2) The braided brake line supplied seems the wrong length. Looking at the car and at the diag on realoem

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BT92&mospid=49344&btnr=34_1500&hg=34&fg=17

the brake line in the rear wheel well is made up of two parts. 5 and 11, both with rubber sections. I presumed the brake line supplied would be long enough to fit in place of these and follow the original brake line path to get rid of the rubber.

Any helps and thoughts gratefully recieved. I will query back to Apex Performance but being a Bank holiday weekend that will take some time...

Thanks Beedub. Very nice talking to you and thanks for the help. To quickly summarize what Beedub said in relation to my original questions..

1) Yes, tie it up really. Pads on these kits dont seem to have a slot for the sensor.
2) Just part 11 is normally replaced

Something I asked about that was in the Tis. The Tis says keep the clutch to the floor when replacing the lines. Beedub said that he hasn't done this, we can't quite see why you would need to as very little comes out of the line when you open it up.

Was that about it? :D Cheers again

Is there a rear kit for the z4m? Can't find it on either UK or NA websites. I'm interested in a kit for my z4m as well

The uk K-Sport website fronts Apex Performance which I ordered through. We weren't quite sure about the rear kit but felt fairly sure the E46 M3 rear kit would be ok which proved correct.

So the full kit is:
Front 8-pot 356mm rotor (just fits with oem wheels)
Rear 4-pot 330mm rotor

The main problem that has delayed me was that the flexible brake lines supplied were the wrong length and wouldn't mate up to the existing bulkheads in the wheel well where the metal brake lines terminate. Apex have provided very good support and as I have done each axle, they have had the correct brake lines made up free of charge and sent to me.

Frustratingly, because of Easter family commitments, the atrocious weather we have had the last few weeks (fitting outside!) and work taking me away from home, I've not quite finished. I'm hoping the front brake lines will arrive by post this morning, the weather will hold off, so I can fit them, bleed the front brakes and drive the car 8)

I should probably create a separate thread that highlights fitting issues with some pics, but when I get my ass outa bed, I'll put a couple of pics up here to whet the appettite.

I think you might be the first on here with the K-Sports. I'd love to read your review of them. Do you track the car at all? What colour did you get?

I intend to start tracking the car next year. Pretty busy with a lot going on this year so I think I will concentrate on some driver lessons first as I recognize that I am probably the weak spot in the car :?

I chavved it up with some red ones as I have black wheels. After a recent post by someone else though, been thinking that yellow might have been more interesting to go for.

Yellow would look very nice too. Maybe orange ones like bmwZ (http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=19368) who also has the rear kit as well!

As promised a couple of pics from my K-Sport fitting fun.

The first shows the new 8-pot front brakes ready for a flexible brake line to be fitted before bleeding. The second shows how the new flexible brake line is connected to the bulkhead inside the rear wheel well. I will post more detail in a proper thread on line lengths required, ends, etc later.
