I have to say that it is not my place to tell anyone else what they should or should not do.
Personally we have two BMW's, the Z4 and a 5 series. The 5 is due for replacement and we are considering the new 5 series but may choose something else
We have also had a 1 series and I have been very happy with all of them. However if there is a known fault with a vehicle I would expect the manufacturer to accept this and replace the parts, whether the vehicle is still under warranty or not.
If this is not the case, as it appears there are examples of people having to replace the parts themselves, then I would support any campaign to change this, irrespective of which manufacturer it is.
I personally do not care what other people think about how this reflects on the car I drive.
My wife drives our car, often with one of the kids in the car and we are talking about a suspension component.
I am planning to change my car before the warranty expires but feel that this is simply a matter of principle
