BBC to end Formula 1 television contract early

I'm glad to hear that F1 is staying on terrestrial TV as I feared for its future (& still do to a certain extent) I think if F1 was a $ky exclusive that the UK fanbase would dwindle as I believe it has done in Germany when they switched to F1 being on pay TV.

Lets face it F1 is predominately a UK sport - you only need look at the amount of F1 teams based in the UK to realise this.

I stand by my comment, that's why I said predominately & not exclusively, sure Italy & Ferrari are a major player, the biggest if economics is the metric you measure, but of the 10 teams that raced in in F1 in 2015, 7 are based in the UK.

It's a joke of a sport as it currently positions itself...WWE has more legitimacy than F1. The fact Lewis gets consistently nominated for sports personality is another joke.

I have watched every single F1 race since 1980. This season I just watched the BBC or Sky Highlights show as it has become so DULL. Next season looks like more of the same. ALMS and WEC is much better racing these days.

or to look at a the fact the Global TV audience is over 400 million and the UK's combined F1 audience is just short of 4 million to realise that its not a predominately british sport , it is global .

the UK based teams are chosen due to the expertise available in the local area, for the same reason the Chevrolet engine for Indycar was designed and built in the UK.

Well since the BBC has a broken funding model then the inevitable cuts happen. A channel showing only some of the races and not all and with the cost accounting for much of the saving required it's a no brainer.

Only because he has been in the best car at the time ! Just like Vettel/Red Bull, Schumacher/Ferrari etc etc.

Can't say i'll miss F1, it's got very boring of late as far as racing is concerned

Much rather watch Aussie touring cars etc, action packed from start to finish

f1 is dull although i do think this season was better and the BBC is a waste of space and energy. hopefully they will cut most of the other dross they make scraping the barrel of b list celebs to make reality crap. i resent the TV license as another hidden tax and have no sympathy with them losing the f1 because they cant generate revenue. if it were a business it would have folded a long time ago.
